Well after a lot of thinking and internal debate, we have decided to pass on a Prius III we ordered last May. It was just delivered to the dealership this week FINNALY. I can’t believe it took them so long to get it. As it was, it was supposed to be our cash for clunkers car but obviously it never arrived in time for that. Truth be told, I was not overly sad as I had a hard time with the idea of losing my 95 Blazer which I bought new and was the last car I purchased from my father’s dealership before he got out of the business in 1998. I still use the Blazer during the summer to tow boats, a trailer, and other “work†at our place in Wisconsin. Somehow destroying it never did “feel†quite right to me. It only has 102, 000 miles on it and still runs great. We will now likely keep it indefinitely.

So for those interested – Rhinelander Toyota in northern Wisconsin has a Blue Ribbon Metallic Prius III with Nav which is now available. Between the end of the CARS program and the price increase that has occurred, the new Prius would cost us approximately $5,200 more than we originally planned and so we just don’t think we should buy it now. The Prius was to be my wife’s car as I am very happy with my 2008 Prius Touring and plan to keep it for a long time. The car it replaced, an 88 Chevy Nova Twin-Cam (a.k.a Toyota Corolla with a bow tie) I owned for 20 years.

While we were waiting on the car to arrive, my wife got all excited about the Honda Fit Sport. We looked at the Yaris, but sorry Toyota, although the Insight may not compete favorably against the Pruis, the Yaris does not compete favorably against the Fit. So if any of you have thoughts about the Fit, fire away. My wife get less car, but its about the same cost as the Prius would have been if it came in on time (and I don’t have to give up my Blazer) and she seems even more excited about it.. Go figure!

I've sat in the Fit several times and although I'm a little big in the driver's seat a 6' 2" tall, I could see how the Fit would be great for those under 6' (actually headroom is good for me, but I really like to stretch out in a car.)

Seems like a really neat little car and apparently some fun to drive.

You are right; the Honda FiT is indeed a great little car that's so much fun to drive. Owned the previous GD and now the GE FiT Sports. Had a lot of fun modding the car. Here's a pic of our current FiT.

Since you mentioned the Yaris, we traded ours for the Prius. The car was a garage queen...more like a project car. :)

Hope you enjoy the photos. :D

It was between the Prius and the Fit sport for me. The "new" car is to become my sons in two years when he is 16. I liked the Fit Sport, had a lot going for it, I'm sure my Son would have liked it better, but I'll never tell him he could have had a Fit, or he may.:)
I flew an Apache helicopter all over Northern Wisconsin Feb. 03 for winter testing, thought the area around Rhinelander was beautiful. We joked we had found where Northern Exposure was filmed. Nice couple ran the FBO. Cute petite little woman ran the counter, while her husband ran the fuel truck. She was little bitty, He was so big, he was scary. Looked like a bear in those Carhart coveralls.

I started by looking at the Fit. Its a great car with compact size, very good handling, reasonable streamlining, the ability to carry 4 large adults, the ability to carry large items and a lot of fun to drive.
I ended up buying a Prius because it has better fuel consumption, more space for the driver, is quieter, and has stability control which is not available on Canadian Fits.
It was not an easy decision though. If the Fit had a bit more travel on the drivers seat and I could have bought it with stability control, I might have ended up with one

As long as you and your family are happy with the Fit, good for you! Sure, we sold our 2001 Echo for the 2010 Prius but our requirements and situation are different. GOOD LUCK!

Wow, you have really fixed up the car... Good looking Fit!

I will say my wife like the Bayou Blue Pearl (green) color on the Yaris the best of all the colors for either car, but its not near enough to offset the difference.

Still sad about the Prius loss... Maybe down the rode there will be a nice electric car we can get for around town. Still don't know how they are ever going to work out the "heating the passenger compartment problem" with an electric car. That's just never going to be very efficient.

I was going to buy the Fit to save some $$ but when I looked into it, it was 4K cheaper with the model prius I wanted and decided that 4k wasn't worth the sacrifice of getting my 2nd car choice. Don't get me wrong, the Fit is a great zippy car, I just felt it was too zippy for me. I had a VW golf previously, and love the small cars, but the Fit feels a bit flimsy to me.

I was down to the Fit and the Prius. I test drove both cars and like both cars, but the FE sold me on the Prius. I almost bought the Fit, but was able to get the extra money to get the Prius. If the Prius was a few grand more I would be driving a Fit.

same here. choice was to save money and get small car (fit) or spend a little more to get a mid-sized car (prius) with a lot better fuel economy.

prius rides better while the fit sport has a coppier ride.

the prius can alway be made to corner better.

    prius has better utility

you can get people in the prius's back seat.

the prius's interior is easier to clean, especially the door cards. the fit has black cloth interior.

although the fit and prius are equak in crash test i would take the larger car over the smaller one.

my biggest bet is that gas will go up in price making the prius the best choice over the long haul.
