Just bought my Prius V with AT this past weekend: $32k with the iPod connector (installed) and all-weather cargo mat thrown in. It's a Blizzard white on Bisque, and it's in WA state, if that makes any difference. Thoughts? Good deal, so so, or I got robbed? Also, I would love to hear your thoughts on must-get accessories for the car.

Thank you! I'm new to this forum and thrilled to have found this great group of Prius enthusiasts!

V's with ATP are pretty rare, so any price under MSRP is a good deal.

I've had my V w AT for 10 days. There was never a question that I would have to pay MSRP. Which was $33,200 + $100 in port accessories. OTOH, there was no attempt to pack on extra profit. All models of Prius coming to port after 10/18 will list at $400 more.

Everything else was bought from third parties, all installed (except waiting for Weathertech floor mats).

Looks like you bought it at invoice, which on a Prius is an excellent buy! You must be an excellent haggler!

Well, from his description it sounds like he has a pre-USB/Safety Connect model so perhaps the dealer was just trying to get rid of it.

I was amazed how you could get such a good deal. In the east coast, if you have to get a specific combination of color and features, such as my sandy beach V/AT, you have to wait for at least 2 months if you are lucky. I waited for 10 weeks until I found one 280 miles away in NJ. So I picked up there and paid MSRP. The dealer did not even give me a $69 rear bumper sticker. :(

Sounds like a good deal to me... I managed to get a V with AT for under $32,000 in Blizzard Pearl, but only after having dealer after dealer compete with each other - and after the supposed price increase...

If I needed to hurry so much, how come all of them had 2 or 3 V's in stock that they were willing to sell under MSRP?

Considering how fast all the dealers called me back to tell me that I needed to "hurry" because the cars would be "gone soon", I get the feeling paying under MSRP isn't a problem at this point - at least in Southern California... I sent emails to dealers telling them I'd offer $1,000 below MSRP and heard from most of them within half an hour... If the cars are in such hot demand right now, they wouldn't have even bothered to call...

Congratulations to Jay and Muffin on your new Prius. I ordered my car in June, delivered in Aug, so I paid MSRP which was a bit more than your guys paid. I think you did alright on the price.

Nope, it has the Safety Connect on it and was brand new on the lot. The car had ONE mile on the odometer (3 miles after I was done with my quick test drive lol).

Thanks for the feedback everyone. And the dealer also threw in an 8GB iPod Touch and a coupon book for 2 free synthetic oil changes (kind of random, I know. Anyone who buys a new Toyota from them gets these two items). Sounds like a pretty good deal, all in all. I did haggle with the salespeople for around 2 hours. The salesman, green as hell, almost broke down. He confessed to me at the end that he needed the sale to make his quota - he was just making the minimum commission "Mini" of $100 at that point.

And yes, I did visit another dealer, and they also had two or three V with ATP that they were eager to deal on. The supply and demand curves seem to have shifted since the craziness over the summer.

If dealers want to get MSRP and you have a trade in you should at the very least get high end on trade in. If they take of the MSRP then they will take off your trade in.

Dealers also have a quota bonus that is giving them once they reach a certain goal.

Example: 24000 msrp trade in 2005 prius 15000 net to buyer is 9K. dealer approx $2500 sell of trade 18999 $3900 $6400 not counting quota bonus.

If they knock off $2000 of of sticker then your trade in is now 13000 net is the same
dealer makes 500 and 5900 of of trade profit is the same $6400.

If you lease you really have to be careful...never put outstanding loan on lease because you are paying interest, depreciation and taxes which will not be taken in consideration when lease is up. Lease per month can be adjusted either by paying a large or small down payment, the more you pay up front then monthly lease is less. They will get their money out of the lease and love to have you put your outstanding loan on the lease.

    Hi Jay,
I also got the same deal on my car, here in San Jose...with TAX, etc., it was 35k out the door, with our huge sales tax in our area. Right now I'm having problems with my new Lotus phone not staying connected to my blue tooth, and I have to pair it each time I get in the car..it's a pain. But, I just LOVE my new Prius!! Haven't bought any accessories for it, except the Prius key chain. good luck!

    Jay,

Are you planning on importing the Prius into Canada?

I live in Vancouver and I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Which dealer did you buy it from?

In case anyone is interested, the Canadian Prius with ATP does not come with LED lights.

Congrats on your new purchase. Let us know how you like it, especially all the tech bits.

I bought mine at the end of July in Richmond, VA, paid $32K and the dealer added the clear front bra and body-side moldings. He also changed the reverse beep to a single beep.

I'm sure you will enjoy the V with ATP. I'd also be curious if you ever use the parking assist, a useless feature if ever there was one.... I'd much prefer automatic headlights which the US cars lack and makes a joke of a package referred to as advanced.

I guess the values of the V with or without the ATP will be the same in 3-4 years. I purchased the V with just the NAV.

Nope. Haven't figured out how to use the park assist yet. I tried to use it in a fast food parking lot, but I couldn't get it to work properly, so I gave up. I'll try again one of these days. I do a lot of parallel parking in the city, so it would come in useful if it really does work.

That's a spectacular price! The clear bra is worth at least $500-700, so you got your car for under the invoice price of $31,400! Congrats.

There are two ways to do it. With and without the Pre-Support function (which is the button to the right of the steering wheel, waaay below the POWER button).

Section 7 of the navigation manual talks about the IPA and how to position the car to maximise the efficiency of using the system. It works most of the time but it sometimes gets it wrong.

You can also get good tips out of there like how to position the box faster (so far, all videos show that you can move the box via the arrows. That will take a long time if the car has positioned the box completely out of the parking space).
