The question seems to still be out in the ether - does *anyone* know of a 2" trailer hitch available for the 2010 Prius??? I have a 2" bike rack, and would like to do other light weight tows. No flames please - I know the specs, uses and implications... Just looking for a 2010 2" hitch......

    TIA!!!

None that I know of having worked at a hitch store. May be able to find an adapter tho.

The only 2-inch hitch for the Prius was made by Coastal Tech. They currently have the 2-inch hitch available for the 1st-generation and 2nd-generation Prii.

There has been rumors they will be coming out with a 2-inch hitch for the 3rd-generation Prius but I haven't seen anything about it in the past few months.

Keep in mind however that the Coastal hitches have not had a good reliability record with various owners here on Priuschat, many of whom had the hitch fail. Some had to modify the hitch to make it stronger. So caveat emptor, when they do come out with a 3rd-gen 2-inch hitch.

weld it to the table, cut out the old receiver, weld in a new 2" receiver. Sounds like a great plan, wbut who has the time?

Like the idea - but as I have little arc welding experience - and am more looking for something more tested and proven - I think cutting and pasting on an existing 1 1/4" platform just does not make sense :) ..... Still looking for something in the 2" variety ????????????

Coastal Tech's response to 2" reciever

Called Coastal Tech inquiring about a 2" for the Prius - He said call back in a couple months :( Hence it looks like I'll need to look for something more creative - like changing the 1/14 to a 2" at a welding shop ...

Has anyone played in this ballpark before???

2 Months have passed. Does anyone have any updates on the availability of a 2" receiver?

Has anyone bought/installed one of these? I like the class III hitch with 2" receiver - more heavy duty.....

I know what Santa's bringing me this year

Reference: mgb4tim reply. Site won't let me quote for some reason.

Is this a complete trailer hitch? What does receiver mean? I would assume all you would need is a 2" ball? Isn't a classs 3 more than a Prius is suppose to carry?

I got the Q&S - it's a Class III - which to me just means it's sturdier. Also, you can put more stuff (and more stuff is available) in a 2" than Class I. I have a big 'ole 2" bike rack, and am thinking about getting one of those hitch mount trailers (it just plugs in - no wheels).

The hitch did not come with ball and ball mount (which you may want to use a step up anyways). UHaul rates the car capable of pulling a 5x10 (but not 6x12). Not that i'm planning on pulling a trailer - just skis, bikes, camping stuff...

If you run a search on Ebay for "2010 Toyota Prius Trailer Receiver Tow Hitch 10 2" NEW", you will find a Q&S class III hitch for $116.

    FYI,
Prius has zero lbs towing capability.

Better leave the wife and kids at home if that's the case. They weight more than this trailer I want to tow.

Prius is designed to carry your wife and kids within 825 lbs. (page-548 of owners manual)
Prius is not designed to tow anything. (page-266 of owners manual)

What's the downside vs. any other car of it's weight/power. Some this size are rated for 1000# towing capacity. I know it has the power to pull this 260 pound Kayak trailer.
