I have a 2010 Winter Gray Metallic (color code 8V1) V and I'm looking for Toyota touch-up paint for it (got a small rock chip above the driver's door handle the first night I owned it).

I've spoken with the dealer's part's department a number of times now and have gotten various answers from "I can't find that color code in the system" to "I see it in the system but we don't have any so I'll order it on Monday and it should be here in about a week", back to "It's a Sherwin Williams paint, It's not in the system, and I have no idea when it'll be available so I'll call Toyota on Tuesday when I'm back in the office to see what they say". It's odd that two of those answers match and the other one doesn't, but my real curiosity is how can Toyota sell a vehicle in a color that they don't provide a part (Touch-up paint) for? It seems really strange to me that at this point it's still not in stock at parts departments, or at least in their computers.

My parts department told me that there's a place about 30 minutes away they could send me to where they could make the paint for me, but I really want them to acquire the Toyota paint since my sales person was going to give it to me.

Has anyone else looked for and found Toyota Winter Gray Metallic (8v1) touch-up paint? Thanks for any thoughts.

Mine came with a small tin of 8V1 in the glovebox when I picked it up :) (The demonstrator model I played with also had a can in the glovebox - so it wasn't my dealer just being nice!)

I've just spent the weekend touching up a monster stone chip in the front hood - so I feel your pain!

If you do get a tin I can highly recommend thinning it down a bit with cellulose thinners - it can be a bit gloopy :)

must be the color. i bought a tube? of metallic blue spectra... but then again, i think the same color is available on the 09's (at least i see classic Pri's with a color that looks the same as mine)

    Jinsing,

Here is an after-market source that many folks have reported provide
excellent Prius color matching. Near the end of the ordering process you
need to provide your VIN to get the exact shade:

PaintScratch Touch-Up Paint (rs), Spray Cans, Spray Paint, Paint Pens

Give 'em a shout, though I don't know if they have the GEN III colors
    yet.

From tone_uk's post it sounds like a tin of touch up paint might be SOP
in the UK, but apparently not in the USofA.

The 2010 blue is Blue Ribbon Metallic. Not the same as Spectra Blue Mica. Did you get the right color?

Thanks. I'll keep them in mind if it comes to that.

So funny that you got some and I'm having such an issue. I got a call from my dealer's parts department saying that they were told by Toyota or Sherwin Williams (I'm not sure which) that it may be 2+ months before there's 8V1 Touch-up paint :(

I too was told by my dealer that it is not yet available and it could be months. They indicated a delay of sometimes 6 months when a new color (such as 8V1) comes out.

i guess i did. i actually saw a classic up close and its the same shade of blue, but the classics does not have the multi color metal flake in it.

to be honest with ya, i dont think touch up paint would have the metal flake in it either. the reason i got the touch up was to cover bare metal from a bump i received. to repair it, both the panel and the adjoining panel had to be repainted because its not possible to match the way the paint lays down with the metal flake.

although i was paid for the damage, i could not see paying $1100 for that minor of damage. so i will live with it.

I picked up an Winter Grey 8V1 touch up pen here in Canada. Came within 4 days after ordering it back in early September. Its definitely available, and I've had to already use the pen twice.

I also need some 8V1 touch-up paint, but, like other posters, have yet to find it at any local dealers. However, has anyone heard of Crown Auto Trim? I just found an 8V1 touch-up paint pen online. Is it safe to go with a non-Toyota paint product? See link:

    Hello Everyone,
I seem to be a topic of discussion without me knowing, that's kinda cool. At any rate, I am Johnny and I own CrownAutoTrim.com-because I have over 9 years with Toyota in parts & service I specialize in Toyota & Nissan products only. Even though I am a little new to eCommerce I am in no way new to Toyota parts or cars, so feel free to ask a question and if I don't know, I'll find out. I am actually leaving for SEMA tonight and I will most definitely keep my eyes out for new Prius products because my business depends on it. Thanks again everyone!

Also, 8V1 is a new color that my paint supplier and I are
working on developing because Toyota has not released the formula to the
aftermarket, and unlike a body shop where the car is in front of me to match
the color exactly, I have to rely on mixture formulas. Also, we will not
release a color to a customer unless it matches exactly. It is listed on the
dropdown because I it is an available Toyota color and I thought that it should be
simple to make. At any rate, I am leaving for the SEMA show tonight and will
know the outcome of this color by Friday 11.6.09
    Thanks everyone

Hey, jayvee requested me to throw up a pic of the Toyota Touch touch-up paint pen for Winter Grey (8V1, 010509) I purchased from Toyota in September, so here you go:

What's the total including shipping to US? And how long does it take to arrive?

Winter gray's a nice color... but why'd you use the pen instead of regular touch-up paint? its just different in delivery, right? my thought would be a clear coat pen after using a touchup brush applicator from an online retailer.
