Just wanted to let you all know of my experience with Wawanesa Insurance, they have the best rates! I was already with Wawanesa before I bought my 2009 Pacakge 2. I decided to call around to get a quote from AAA, the rep over there said that Wawanesa has the best rates in Cali, and many other companies won't even qoute you if you tell them that you are already with Wawanesa. I'm paying only $777 compared to AAA at over $1000.

    Hope this is useful.

They're not too bad I must say and the fact that their HQ is down the street isnt too shabby either. Just FYI, they are only in California and Oregon I believe?

Funny thing was that my rates actually went up after I switched from an 05 Tundra Work Truck to the 08 Prius

I've been with Progressive for years.
You know why they call it Progressive?
Rates go up every six months!
    Progressively.

Last thurssday I got home from work and opened my mail, renewal from Progressive, sure enough, rates went up considerably.
Seperately was a letter from my agent trying to blame the increase on the cost of doing business in New York, putting the blame on someone else............

Also in my mail was a letter from Liberty Mutual telling me they can beat rates, and to give them a call.
Friday I did just that and went down my policy with them line by line.
Now understand we have 4 vehicles on our policy, 3 with collision. And my wife's vehical is a Postal Jeep Cherokee she uses to deliver mail.
Progressive would cost me $1488 for 6 months, over $1600 with payment plan instead of all at once............
Liberty mutual quoted me around $2350 for a full year, or would you beleive $1766 for a full year if we took a defensive driving course..............

Agent from Liberty Mutual came out to the house Saturday afternoon to take pictures of the Prius so I didn't have to drive to her office almost 20 miles away.
The other cars were older, so didn't need pictures.

Kind of like Karma that they both sent me notices the same day...............

Though about now I really wanna give that grinning Progressive girl a slap.............

    Bye Bye Flo!

Progressive has a rep for giving you great deals up front, then upping them after the first year or two considerably. I'm with Liberty and they tend to be more expensive. But either due to laziness or comfort with my agent who has been a friend of the family for 15 years or more...I stick with him. My insurance went up from $550 for my 98 Malibu to $900 on the 06 Prius. Eh...it is what it is.

I pay about $600AU a year which is a lot less than $600US. I get full cover and pay $300 excess on claims. My car is still insured for what I paid for it, if it is written off I get the full purchase price back less $300, it's an agreed value policy.
I expect the agreed value will drop next renewal.
    I'm with RAA insurance.

Another thing to keep in mind to avoid a "BIG SHOCK" is the Prius is expensive to insure. It was the same rate as the anti-Prius (2001 Nissan Pathfinder LE AWD). The best rate I got was $900 per year Can. (about $700 US currently). I dropped that by about $100 by including home insurance with the company (ING).

The main reason the Prius is expensive to insure is the high cost of "minor front end damage", due to the thermos and coolant transfer pump being right up front and not protected by the bumper (behind the bumper cover). The fix for this is easy but you won't get a lower rate because all the other Prius are still vulnerable and are racking up repair costs.

That's what I think so too, esp most of the 'minor' Prius crash stories we heard here were all end-up the car being totaled. Not sure if the bodyshops are still having phobia on touching Hybrids, thus increased the 'totality' and rate to insure....LOL!

swi66, try Travelers Auto Insurance. I live in New York State and I get a hybrid discount. When I went from an eleven year old car to my 2006 Prius, my insurance premiums for Full Coverage including glass, comp and collision with extended liability limits for bodily injury went from $800.00 per year to around $700.00 per year. I did increase my deductible from $100.00 with the old car to $250.00 (I think) with the Prius. I also have a motorhome (21 foot Class C) which I insure with GMAC Insurance. Taking the Safe Driver's Course is worth every penny and the insurance reductions last for three years requiring you to take the course only once every three years. It costs $35.00 and takes one Saturday day, but the big bonus is it makes you a better driver.

Liberty Mutual has us signed up for the safe driver course on the 28th.
Plenty of time for it to go in effect before my "due date" of April 21st.
They even give me a "discount" off of the regular price charged others taking the course, we are paying $22 each.

Maybe next year I'll check other companies, but so far they are a lot better than Progressive (Regressive?)

Our insurance with State Farm (with whom I have been since 1978) went up $318 a year (including the gap coverage) when we removed the Taurus and added the Prius; we pay a bit over $2000 a year for two cars and renter's insurance.
