If you had read carefully, it was brake CLEANER. Most likely used to clean the grime off the parts before dis-assembly.

Perhaps the coolant specs for the INVERTER are DIFFERENT from the regular engine coolant specs.

Are you a Toyota-trained and certified Prius tech? Or do you just use a Haynes auto repair manual for your info? I ALWAYS use the OFFICIAL manufacturer repair/shop manuals for the specifications and try to use items that meet or exceed said specs; especially on a vehicle as complex as the Prius. I sure there is a good reason for Toyota to spec the different types of coolant.

I just changed the engine coolant and thermostat, inverter coolant and pump on my '08 Prius on Saturday. The entire procedure took me under 4 hours, at a leisurely pace, and cost about 200.00 for the materials. At least on the '08, the inverter coolant and engine coolant are the same, the SLLC(pink). This job is not particularly difficult, with the hardest part being getting the air out of the engine coolant. I used an air lift(vacuum fill) and it worked pretty well.

We have 4 Prius's in our extended family. See below, previously posted.

    Hi all

Posted this in the Gen Tech section possibly wrong place so, again-

We have 4 GenII Pri's in the family. The three located in Arizona have had Inverter pump failures each during a peak heat month.
All have been replaced on warranty, mileage from 35k to 85k with assurance that no long term damage has occurred.

My '04 has 85k and it's failure occurred a few months ago. A few weeks ago noticed that one tank average had dropped from 50 +/- 1 to 43 +/- 1 MPG.

Checked tire pressure, oil level, brake drag, DTC's etc and all good.

Could the inverter semi-conductors be going bad with no DTC's?
    What else could it be??
