0-60 MPH performance of various transmissions

    This thread is a comparison of various transmission during acceleration. My favorite is eCVT featured in Toyota, Lexus, Ford and Nissan Altima hybrids.

    Feel free to post your own video (doesn't have to be made by you) along with one line comment.

    Tahoe Hybrid 2 Mode:
    Gas engine stuck at 1,000 RPM at around 10 MPH. A gear shifted at around 45 MPH.


    Insight (mechanical) CVT:
    The same as non-hybrid mechanical CVT. The rise in RPM slowed near 4,500 RPM.


    Camry non-hybrid Automatic:
    Gas engine reached peak power but had to shift at 35 MPH.


    Camry Hybrid eCVT:
    Peak power reached very fast and stayed there!

    I can't think how you would do it without a long steep hill.:D The engine management system wouldn't let you do it otherwise.

    What is redline on these?


    I has a tach hooked up to mine, i don't think it will even let you redline it inn N, although I didn't really try. In N the revs seems to go up to some moderate rev number ( I forget what it was) then not go any faster with more throttle.

    Prius relines at 5,200 RPM for gen3, 5,000 RPM for Gen2 and 4,500 for Gen1.

    ECU won't let you go pass that.

    This one shows Insight, Prius and Fusion hybrid.

    Fusion hybrid reached peak power at 35 MPH and stayed there. Insight did not reach it's peak power (5,800 RPM) until 55 MPH. Too bad Prius does not have such indicator -- See Camry hybrid video posted above. It reach peak power at around 20 MPH!

    [Edit]: The tachometer in Camry hybrid does not show power. It is actually fuel consumption (MPG). So, we don't know when it reaches peak power.

    What's the fastest a gen 2 will hit 60 in? I've personally managed 11 seconds, but that was launching on gravel which fired up traction control.

    Here's someone else's Altima Hybrid:


    (From Consumer Reports - Fuel economy vs. performance, the NAH is quite a bit faster in the 0-60 mph than the TCH, FFH and of course the Prius and Insight. I think that makes it the quickest 4-cylinder hybrid, for now. It's also quicker than the conventional Altima 2.5 S and apparently on par w/the V6 equipped HiHy and Lexus RX hybrid.)

    Which I find very good - you can just stomp on the accelerator and you will not blow anything... :cool:
