I have an 06 Prius with 186,000 miles and the engine developed a bearing knock. I plan on removing, rebuilding and reinstalling the engine. What is the best manual for engine removal? Does the transaxle have to be revoved with the engine? or can they be seperated in the vehicle.

The Toyota repair manual suggests removing the engine and transaxle as one unit.

You may find that it is easier and cheaper to replace the engine with one from a salvage vehicle, since there isn't much demand for used engines. Good luck.

+1. Vast quantities of salvage engines lying about, fills 25 pages on a car-part.com search, priced as low as $150 w/warranty (incredible!!!)

Please do post followups of your repairs. Prius engine failures are rare, even pushing 200K miles.
