Hello everbody new to the prius world! I recently purchased a 06 prius with 185k. Gas engine needed to be replaced so I recently replaced it. Had code of engine failed to start. Now got replacement engine in and has p0300 and p0303 and p0304. Weird thing is new plugs. Swapped coils and injectors with same results. To me it sounds like a racket in the the transmission. The noise is not consistent at all. Very loud and odd. Also inside the carwhen I put it in drive or neutral a warning light comes up and says shift to park batteries wont charge while in neutral. Thanks for any help. Ill post a video shortly that I have

how did you diagnose the engine was the problem with the "failed to start"? There are many things that can cause thing, unrelated to the engine.

It would literally take a tech less than 5 minutes to diagnose your car with a proper code reader. If you can get the codes, we may be able to help. Without those codes and all the issues you are describing, it would be very difficult to pinpoint your problem.

For all we know, the engine replacement might not even be necessary. No start issues usually does not mean replace engine.

No its the new one. Ran flawlessly for two hours prior. Sounds like electric motor is trying to engage

did you use OEM Denso or NGK plugs? Not sure what would cause a good running engine to misfire like that after 2 hours. Unless it overheated

Oem denso. After it started this. After its done with the first run. When it goes quiet I can push the accelerator down and engine sounds normal. Its always when it starts on its own

Any ole code reader can read those misfire codes. And it does sound like a prius misfire to me.

As Bisco correctly informed you the VCI is the way to go giving dealer level of functionality at very low cost. It will read all!!! Toyota, Lexus, and Scion codes as well as performing tasks such as brake bleeding, and keyfob programming. If you work on a Prius in my opinion this is a must have. In fact I will modify that statement with if you own a Prius you should have the VCI.
I am not in any way connected with the sale or manufacture of any type of code reader.
