Title says it. Is it a waste of my money to spend $2400 on a 08 Prius? I'm pretty diy for all other parts and really would like to get another 6-8 years.

It's not a waste of money at all. The price of fuel now, you can save half of that in a year compared to driving a non Prius.

Did you get your battery quote from phoenixhybridbatteries.com? Steve?

if you’re diy for the rest that can pop up like you said than i’d say it’s worth it! buying a different car would just bring new unkowns into the equation. how long have you owned yours?

This is a joke right you know the car can probably go 600k pretty easily I'm at three and just put a 1647 brand new dealer battery in that I picked up myself and swapped out and it was worth every cent I'm fixing to do the same thing again to a gen 3 I would really spend the $2,100 on the Dr Prius battery but they can't deliver and they don't know when they can that seems to be the battery to have if you want to drive the shiet out of the car

The folks that seem to me to have the most trouble are the ones that don't stay on the road low miles to the office and back wife does everything during the day so the Prius goes to the office and straight back to the house 16 miles or something terrible the car will die a slow death of that I have them around me dead that have lived like that the taxi cab company in my town myself and a few others that keep them on the move almost have very few of many of the troubles that's all I can say it's what I've noticed

best decision you can make imo. these days? repairs are much cheaper than new/used purchases.

08's are tanks. sure, you might need a brake actuator or somesuch along the way, but still well worthwhile to keep her rolling.

    all the best!

What’s the alternative you’re thinking of? Not getting a battery and selling the car?

This is what I don't understand about these million mile electric cars the car is going to go piles of miles and the seats in the interiors are going to be completely trashed I mean look at the tan Prius at 70 90,000 miles all the 10 cloths is turning gray and dark from just people etc I look at a Tesla model 3 and I'm thinking to myself my God 300,000 mi this interior is going to be not and unlike planes and other interiors these cars nobody's come up with the way to deal with this at least the seats to make them worthy of a million miles

It depends on the condition of the car. Is it otherwise in pristine condition? Do you have maintenance records like brake fluid changes every 30k for example or just oil changes? Are tires, 12v battery and brakes in excellent condition or due for replacement after 1-2 years? Does it burns oil or has leaks?
In a pristine condition car I would buy the new hybrid battery. On anything else I would just rebuild it for $500.

Pretty easy to either re-skin the seats there was a note about this the other day, or put seat covers on for $100.
