I was thinking about buying a 10'6" paddleboard, but would like to know if it will fit in my prius or if I need a roof rack (or have the hatch up or something). I have busted out the tape measure, and it looks like it MIGHT be able to squeeze in from the back corner up on to the dash. Has anyone fit a 10'6 in there before?

    Thanks in advance!

i've fit 10ft pieces of pvc piping in the car with roughtly 8 to 10 inches left over. i assume it Would fit... ... even better if you place it at an angle.

make sure to set a towel or something soft on the dash. you don't want to damage your dash. ( i have )

I was able to JUST fit a 10' 2by4 diagonally in a 2009, I would not predict that a longer straight piece of lumber would fit.

    Thanks for the input!

If it doesn't quite fit, do you have any experience driving with the hatch slightly open? Is that okay to do safely? Unfortunately, it would be a two hour drive, mostly highway.

To maximize the length, fold down the front passenger seat. Put the paddleboard in diagonal (Front passenger windshield to the hatch driver side).

Do take some picture if it fits. It will surely would not fit in Honda Fit.

No way to be certain other than to try, but having also carried some lumber and pipes (some with a partly-open hatch) I predict that the width will kill this. Definitely have a backup plan, at the very least bring various lengths of bungee cords to secure the board and a partially-open hatch.

Well, this is not very safe as exhaust gases may be sucked into the open hatch as you are driving along. It is also not safe to have this large board in the passenger compartment if you get into an accident.

Yes, keep your windows down for ventilation. Patrick's point about danger in an accident is excellent. It would be much safer to carry the thing on a roof rack.

I've fit a 9'6"x31" paddle board in my 2007 Prius. That's about the largest I would attempt safely. I also would use a board bag, no use chancing a ding or cracked windshield.
