hi all. I have a 2gen 2004 with 82k miles on it. the navi was from 2004. could not find my home address and so many other places. last night i searched on "pb" and someone has put 12.1 for 04-05 2nd gen prius. downloaded and used image burner to burn it on a 8gb dvd+rw dl. i searched so much to change the book type on dvd-rw but could not make it and so i burnt it like that. to my surprise it worked just fine. now i have 12.1 maps and one thing less to think of.

I still have some rattle noise like something is loose, when i drive in small bumps or rough road, and it sounds like when you shake a bunch of metallic keys or something metallic shaking, coming mostly from my right side.
    any idea about this?
    thanks

A *friend* was inspired by you post and found the 12.1 ISO for the Gen5 nav unit (Prius 2008). They knew the later model gen2 prius (200x - 2009) are unique in rejecting burned disks. Other Toyota and Lexus cars that use the same Gen5 nav system don't complain about burned disks, but the Prius does.

Previous testing showed a 2008 Prius accepted a burned copy of the v7.1 disk (the original was put away for safe keeping). It was postulated that the LOADING.KWI file was responsible for the firmware that rejects burned disks, so an attempt was made to try a v12.1 disk with a v7.1 LOADING.KWI file. Since the car already had v7.1 firmware it was expected it would just work with the same firmware but the new maps.

Unfortunately, it gave an error message saying the DVD was bad or not present (or something like that). The old (burned) v7.1 disk was but back in and everything worked again.

I found it holding on to a bottle of rum floating in said bay.
    Downloading as I type.
Does it NEED to be verbatim and that specific format DVD?

Threads on other message boards mention Memorex brand DVD-DL disks are good as well.

I wish the Gen5 nav wasn't so grumpy about burned disks.

Stopped at Staples on the way home from DMV getting my temp plate for the Prius. Got some Memorex media and burned the 10.x image I found.
How long should I expect the "DVD Check..." to stay up? Seemed like it was taking a while and I didn't want to burn anything out sitting in my driveway. Am I safe to do the update in ACC mode?

I believe it says that while it is upgrading the firmware. It could take several minutes. ACC mode is probably fine, but you can't go wrong putting it in READY mode.

Read them over. Seems like maybe I need to try to download a newer version (I think I have 10 on my DVD) and replace the LOADING.KWI with the one from the current DVD that is in there. We shall see.

I kept it on all trying to update while I was picking up the kids from daycare (left the car on and all), and then drove home. It was about a 45 minute trip or so. When I got home it still said the same thing.

I'll re-download and re-burn and see what I come up with. Even if I keep screwing it up I am only out time and $15 :)

Downloaded the image, burned to an Verbatim 8x DVD+R DL, & replaced the stock disk in a 2005 Prius. It loaded up in a minute or two & so far is working without issue.

So I'm guessing that the Gen5 12.1 I managed to get might really be Gen4, because I burned it with my 5.1 loading.kwi, and it loads without error, and shows the data as 12.1, but neither the Address nor POI icons do anything. Drat. I'm still on 5.1/7.1 in my 2006, I'd really like some newer data.

I'd try a straight 12.1, but I really wouldn't look forward to hand saving (even if by pics) 100 addresses in case I need to do a full reset back to 5.1/7.1.
