Recently we plugged an inverter in to the car charger receptacle in the front dasboard to run our laptop while on the road. It stopped working and now the receptacle will not run our cell phone charger, either.

The receptacle in the console still worked, however, until the other day when I plugged the inverter into it to run the computer again! Now neither receptacle will work. Is this a fuse issue, or some deeper-seated problem?

Fuses. You need to replace the two blown fuses.

The deeper problem is that the inverter overloads those 12V outlets. After replacing the fuses, don't use this inverter in the car.
