i bought mine in 08/01 and the ignition battery is about to die completely.
the dealer told me prius won't replace the old one, but will charge several $100 for a new set-up. i expected to finda lead on this subect here, but didn't. maybe i search poorly. anyway, does anyone know more about this than I? Is it possible to find the old battery on the market?
I didn't find it in e-bay or in a general search engine.

there was a rumor that the Mazda Miata battery fit but I've not been able to confirm it. Most places don't list either on their battery charts. Part of the problem with the Classic battery is it's vented to the outside of the car, because it's in the trunk and you don't want the fumes in the car as they are explosive and corrosive, former more important than the latter. There has been some published informtion on replacing the stock battery with a larger one but I don't think it was on PC I do believe it was on Yahoo. You might google it and see if anything comes up.
