I have officially owned my 2014 Prius Two for 2 months and I'm ready to do some low budget upgrades.First I order a hid plug n play kit fom TRS that my father, the cosigner on the car, would not let me install. When I found out about the aluminum rims under the hubcaps, I removed them and put on ebay Toyota centercaps. Now my wife isn't a fan of the black wheel look. While looking around in my dad's barn I found the OG wheels and tires of my 1996 VW Jetta GLX VR6 that I traded of years ago wearing 18" racing wheels. The buyer didn't want the factory 16" 6 spokes with 205/55/16 tires.Does anyone know the weight difference between the Prius 15s and the VW 16s they seem to have the same lug pattern but I don't know about the size of the hub center. Would these help my handling or just hurt my mpg? Thanx

The VW has a hub bore of 57.1mm while the prius is 54.1, so if you want to alleviate the vibration then I recommend getting some hubrings for the wheels. Both wheels are 5x100 p.c.d. The 16" wheels are going to weigh more than the 15's, that goes without saying but will the difference be that noticeable in terms of performance gains/loss? Probably not. Considering that you do have a wheel set that is over 15 years old, my first concern would be replacing those tires. Rubber compounds do have a shelf life and those are more than likely dry-rotted and useless if they've sat too long. Better safe than sorry.

I was also thinking about the tires.I have 1 never mounted 185/55/16 but I was wondering if I need to go wider. The tires currently on the rims are 205/55/16

Also how difficult would it be to take the tpms off the 15s and put on the 16s

You can go to a 205/55 if you prefer it. It'll just mean that you'll have more contact patch/wider tire tread.

In regards to tpms, it's easy to remove them and transfer it to the different set once the tire is off. All you'll have to do is unbolt the hex nut (silver piece around the valve stem) and it'll come right out.
