It is not in the scheduled maintenance book but most of the owners do it for preventive purpose.

I have been reading this thread off and on. My 05 Prius is near 185k. Its time for an oil change and I wanted to see what y'all recommend? I use Mobile 1 5w30 full synthetic. But with mileage getting higher I wanted to see what y'all used or recommended?

If it works, keep doing it. Is it burning oil during OCI?

Test it using either the MFD in maintenance mode or with a digital voltmeter. You can read the instructions at: Toyota Prius 12 Volt Auxiliary Battery with install kit for 2004 - 10
    Yes, about every 60k miles
Maybe not. My 2004 Prius at 199.9k miles still has the original brake pads.

    Belt changed awhile back! Thanks!

Now mine has 160k miles since; will be hitting 200k hopefully by year end. Does anyone know if the 1st gen Prius has odometer limit of 299k like the ones I read about on this thread w/newer Prius. Have not read thru all the post (sorry) - just asking! Thanks!

Just rolled past 232,000 miles - It is uncanny, I have NEVER owned a car that has been this dependable. I am STILL on the original brake pads and repeatedly am told that I have plenty of pad to spare, other than routine servicing I've only had to replace tires and preemptively replaced the serpentine belt as a 'just-in-case'. I showed my girlfriend the odometer and she asked me why I don't get a new car? I told her that this car has asked me to put so little into it that I'd be willing to spend some money on it before I have to let it go (hopefully someday way in the future :)

Every mile I drive (and I drive over 100 miles a day in my commute) I am just amazed and 'waiting'..... So far so good! What a car!!!

Okay, that's the wrong answer. The right answer is, "I don't want to spend the money on a new car when I could take you shopping for clothes and shoes instead."

My 04 is currently at 250,700 miles

    1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? No
    2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? Yes, at 180k
    3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? Yes, at 180k
    4) Did you replace the brake pads? No, still original.
    5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? 58.0 MPG
    6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use?

I change my oil every 25,000 miles. I don't add oil between changes, and I usually get about 2 quarts of used oil after draining. I start with about 3.5 quarts. I use Mobil 1 0W-20 and the Fram Toughgard oil filter.

    7) How about post a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO? Will post later

Only work done has been the OEM scheduled maintenance
Except for the first two oil changes I have used Mobil 1
Uses apx 1 qt oil every 4k
Mainly drive highway miles - 65-80 mph, 1/3 of commute is slow/stop and go
    Change oil between 5-6500 miles
Most the oil changes performed at Toyota
I do not know the lifetime MPG - alot better than my 2002 Tahoe

You can scrape the finish off the glovebox buttons with a nail ... it leaves them solid black and shiny ... looks a lot better than peeling finish

OK, am a member of the 200,000 mile club, actually now with 202,000. I just got a warning on my dash, it is VSC and the triangle (red) with the exclamation point is lit. I thought this came on when it was hot outside, but am thinking that I need some assistance. Any mechanics in Lake County, Illinois? (Replaced the 12 volt battery a few months back

200k club 8/28/11-18 oil changes, 5 sets of tires, water pump (under warranty) 2nd water pump $560.00, window motor, orig. brakes and batteries. Have a Ford Exp. thats about as good of car-(rides better, but much harder on gas). Would like to shake the liberal image the car puts out-so I keep National Rifle Assoc. and conservitive stickers on the back. Prius is a great car!!

My 2005 Prius officially hit 200k yesterday afternoon. I have done only the scheduled maintenance except for engine water pump replacement (weeping at pulley at around 185k) and new struts/springs at 195k.

    1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? Nope
    2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? Yes, at around 160k
    3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? Yes, every 100k
    4) Did you replace the brake pads? Neither pads nor shoes need replacement
    5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? Around 49
    6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? Changed every 5k miles for first 100k, every 10k miles since, always with Mobil1 5w30

After reading 2 fas for U's driving habits I am not impressed anymore. They would have to refuse to leave the car to pee.

But yeah, 50 - 60k miles a year is a LOT of driving!
