Quick review for those not aware yet - If you upgrade your early Gen II Prius NAV DVD's - you will loose your "over-ride" functions that allow you (while Prius is in motion) to use the MFD to punch in addresses, and/or phone numbers. The MFD screen 'greys-out' some functions while in motion.

Enter the aftermarket manufacturers. We went with the "LockPic" device by CoastalEtech BASIC LOCKPICK1 ) but there are other makers.

Many of the NAV-Over-ride devices use the built-In NAV over-ride manual punch in sequences by doing the sequences through their device. Anyway, the work around was to pull the map data off a newer Toyota GPS DVD, and recompile the new data with the older (pre 2007) DVD loading file. Newer loading files (.kwi suffex) simply wouldn't work.

We just bought the newest Toyota update, compiled the data and burned a copy with our 2004-2006 loading file . . . . . . . and viola! The hybrid DVD is compatible/working . . . . meaning our LockPick over-ride device still works. Whew! Here for example is an area between the 2 local toll roads in So Cal, with new track homes/streets, that wouldn't show up on our old DVD disk:

And here's a vid of the Lockpick, still working - going automatically through its sequences so that you can dial / map input on the fly:
