Our 2004 Prius GPS (computer) system needs replaced. THere is a $4000 replacement cost or $1600 for a reconditioned system via a California firm that specializes in reconditioning the computer system. This made me wonder, if there is a company that only reconditions Prius GPS (comuter) systems, is there a design flaw or problem with the 2004 model? Please help with comments or ideas!

Hi SARAHDALLAS, welcome to PriusChat! :welcome:
Your questions may confuse some here. The Multi-Function Display, or MFD, is the screen in the middle of the dash. The GPS system is a unit under the driver's seat that contains the NAV(igation) DVD. The NAV system displays its map on the MFD.

Some 2004 and 2005 Prius had trouble with the MFD. It may be simple to fix if you know how to wield a soldering iron, or know someone who does. Do a search for MFD replace and see what you come up with. I believe it was Hobbit that discovered and documented a way to fix them.
