    Hello,

Unfortunately my 2004 Toyota Prius was hit by a car turning a corner tightly when I opened the door. The maintenance shop is saying it won't go into anything other than park and neutral but I'm curious if this is because the door won't close. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I'm trying to figure out if I should fix the door or if I should just give up on my car all together

    Sincerely

    Melanie

    Welcome to PriusChat!!

If the door doesn't close, that could drain the 12v battery. Measure the 12v, or apply 12v from a "jump pack" and see if the vehicle fires up.

No, that shouldn't affect it. If you put the car in D while the door is open it will beep and put an error message up on the screen that says something seemingly unrelated about the car not charging if the car is not in P or D.
