I am very close to buy a 2005 Prius, but like to know how soon 2006 is going to released.

The dealer offers -$500 from MSRP for a 2005 Prius with Pkg #4, Silver and will pay $2400.00 for my 2000 Toyota Corolla CE with 100,000 miles with good codition (good: clean inside, new oil change, new brakes, excellent engine/transmission, bad:20" long fine line window crack on the bootom of the windshield, a few minor body scratches, one hub cap missing, driver side power window sometimes not working)

Which one is a better choice?
    1) get a trade-in and buy 2005
    Or,
    2) fix problems and ride it. Then, sell it privately for a better price when 2006 Prius becomes available

    I appreciate your advise.

I'd say go ahead now with the 2005.
Unless you can get the 2006 by December, thus still earning the $2000 tax deduction. I don't think the differences in the 2006 are noticeable and/or worth the wait.
Plus that's a lot of miles on a 2000 Corrola. If it breaks by the time you are ready, you'll get nothing for it. By selling it yourself, you could get more, but how much more? And is that extra amount worth the hassle of ads, meeting others for test drives, and the rest of the hassle of selling a used car.

-$500 sounds good. The 2006 is expected to be delivered to customers around Oct/Nov.

Personally, I'd recommend waiting for an 2006 if you can wait. Why? It will have minor issues fixed... plus it comes in new colors and may even have some changed headlights/taillights.

If not, the 2005 is cool. I do not have any problems or issues with mine.

I daresay 100k on a Corolla or any Toyota would better be described as "just broken in" I've got a friend who's just about to roll over 300k without any major repairs.

Does anyone remember about how long before the 2005 came out did Toyota release the MSRP and option package list for it? I am on the wait list for a 2005 but the dealer said I could just decline any that come in and wait for a 2006 if I want and I am trying to figure out aprox. when the specs and costs for the new MY should be out. Thanks!

When I ordered mine, I placed the order on 15th Sept 2004. The details for the 2005 came out just days before. My car was delivered on 25th Oct 2004.
