So I live where it snows, slick roads, my “new to me” prius does not seem to have functioning ABS brakes in that when I “test” them by locking the brakes up, the Prius skids but I feel no pulsing. I have no codes, other than this the brakes work well. Thought? TIA.

Can't say anything about how yours lock up- compared to some the Prius is slow to respond. But you will never feel the brake pedal pulse, under all normal conditions the driver's foot is completely isolated from anything happening at the wheels.

Using a scan tool like Techstream, you can pull up the ABS History screen after one of those incidents where you locked the brakes and skidded, and see what the car thought about it. It will remember the most recent, I think, four activations.
