Salzburg, Austria - For the global press launch of its new flagship LS sedan - the 2007 LS 460 and long wheelbase LS 460L - Lexus chose Salzburg, Austria, a city rich in musical heritage, the setting for "The Sound of Music" and the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Why a city in the centre of Europe? Salzburg bills itself as "'the stage of the world', the perfect place to emphasize the global direction of the Lexus brand," said Lexus Canada Director Stuart Payne.

Those more cynical among us might surmise that outside of North America, the Lexus brand could use a little direction.

FYI, Lexus has an excellent brand presence in Australia.

Lexus has an enviable and growing brand presence worldwide. That's why EU manufacturers pressured Brussels into passing local content and market share regulations specifically designed to punish Toyota and Lexus, explaining the sales numbers in the CanadianDriver article.

For a moment there, I thought you were gonna say you had one on order to resell lol.

I see. Well, there'll be plenty of Europeans who will stick by their own cars.

Heh, must be my EU side. LS isn't my cup of Grey Poupon. I was surprised to see the incomplete explanation from CanadianDriver, one of the best auto mags available anywhere. Incidentally, Toyota's answer was to build plants in England and France to boost local content, only to be slammed with market share caps.

been seeing the tv spots of the LS... especially the parallel parking feature. sigh... many don't know that the '04 prius has this feature (in japan) but was not included in the US.

I haven't tried it yet, but I've been told that it takes so long to set up the system (30 seconds plus) its not as practical in function as it could be.

Yeah but it is safe to assume that the LS one is more advanced and quicker to set up (i.e. recognises the spot better to minimise adjustments)

The one I'm talking about is the LS system. I'm a forums manager a the Lexus Owners Club, I've not driven the LS460 but plenty of our members have and I haven't seen one person say the automatic parking is practical. Its cool, but not useful.

Well it IS an assist system. It never said it was to take over parking duties 90% of the time, although I can foresee people abusing it.

Just saw a new white LS460L and that thing is definetely WIDE, but not as long as an S600. Looks solid!
