so the other day i was sitting idling and my check engine light, red triangle light, and the red car thing in the top of the display came on. now the hv battery wont charge, the hv battery fan constantly runs, and the regen. braking doesn't work. went to auto zone got the codes P0A80 and P3016. Set up an appointment for a independent mechanic (Yost in Austin, TX.) take a look at it and see whats up. I'm assuming the hv battery is no good. is that a fair assumption given the information at hand? what are some good cheap option in the Austin area for a replacement? thanks for any help.

    I too

I took the fan apart and there doesn't seem to be any obstructions.

With a 12V battery over 4 years old and strange things start happening, always suspect the 12V until that possibility is eliminated. Try this procedure to check out the 12V. You can just trun on the parking lights instead of the headlights. Report your 3 numbers back here.

I got the 12v checked at auto zone. They said it needed to be changed. Should I do that to eliminate the possibility?

I just reset the check engine light. Everything is running fine. Not sure how long it will last.

By that test the battery is fine.

All the lights came back on while doing the battery test.

That is a good assumption. However it also sounds like your 12V battery needs to be replaced.

Replaced the 12v. Two minutes into driving it around the block the lights came back on. Taking it to the mechanic tonight. Keep y'all updated. Thanks for the input. Cheers.

Just got a call from the mechanic. Said I need a new Hv battery. Two of the cells are bad. He wants $3300 for a new battery/labor.

How much is the battery and how much is the labor? A search here will bring up other HV battery options much cheaper than this, from new, rebuilt, to used from salvage yards. The codes would be helpful for some to give a second opinion.

Codes P0A80 and P3016. The mechanic said two middle cells are bad. I think I'm going to go with a used battery for $1000 shipping $300 and try to install it myself. Any advice on doing this? References online?

I called Toyota Custumer care to see if there was anything they could do. Told me to get it to the dealer and they'll call back Monday. Not sure Toyota can help offset the cost but I thought I'd give it the ol college try.
