this car had codes, change drive battery, cell 11 and 12 bad, I changed the drive battery (dorman) cleared all codes, dash lights all off. drove 10miles parked and turned it off, one hour later pushed start button. triagle of death on dash and little car in upper left with exclamation point on screen. will not go in drive or reverse . scan for codes, no codes. inverter pump is running, gas engine is not running to charge drive battery, drive battery is 80% charged. can,t find any rason for this condition. car has 223,500mi. this car is clean through out.

    You will need the codes.
In the meantime, put your high voltage safety gloves on, and go back and make sure the orange plug is firmly seated.
Also check your 12v battery voltage. (you don't need High voltage safety gloves for that.

it's the toyota code reader, you can get it on line for cheap and you need an old windows laptop.
or a dealer can scan it for a hundred bucks or so.

As part of changing the battery you must clean the hybrid battery fan.
Double check that the plug for that is fully seated as well. It will prevent the car from starting otherwise.
The Action should give you most codes.
Feel free to call me if you still are stuck.

The Hybrid fan had been running all the time with old drive battery, I cleaned it. I will check connection to fan, I have not heard fan run since I changed the drive battery (is it called drive battery or just Hybrid battery?)

Drive or HV Battery both terms are equally acknowledged on PC. You need to pull your codes. Others have had DTC issues with remanned Dorman batteries, others have had no issues.

did you do the proper snap and slide of the high voltage switch on the hv battery? it is not intuitive.

I think I have it in right, push in slide handle down, I looked at it installed and the little button in the slide that shows in the slot of handle is showing. I took the High volt switch out waited then pushed start button on dash looked at screen and it showed 7 bars on the HV battery, is that normal? how do you tell if HV battery is getting connected to inverter ?

just got done with work , now i can put my time in this prius prob. I have no code with my scaner, I will get that mini VCI cable. can the mini VCI and toyota code reader pull more codes that my scaner can? (actron code reader plus). why can't the prius just tell me on the screen why it will not start, just a old man thinking out loud.

i'm no expert, but everything i've read here, nothing reads all toyota codes except tech stream.

have you checked all the fuses, including high voltage on battery?

what does the new 12v read when cold and everything off? are the connections good, including ground to body?

the shifter will go in nutral and the park button works. I am going to check inverter coolant senser if it has one and the shifter.
