My 2007 Prius stopped running about a month ago. My son left the house and went maybe half mile and it started to run very slow. Eventually it stopped and wouldn't go in reverse or drive only neutral. It was towed back to our house. Soon after the battery in the trunk (which was new) died. Well I had the battery charged yesterday and the dash lights came on but it still want start. I've been reading since yesterday that it could be out of gas. The fuel light is blinking. About a week before the car stopped running I had a problem pumping as at the gas station. The pump kept stopping. I had the gas attendant check the pump and it worked fine. He said it had to be a problem with my gas tank. So I moved to another pump and was able to put a little gas in it but it said it was full but it shouldn't have been. Which leads me to think it could be out gas.

Before it stopped all the dashboard lights came on including the red triangle.

could be a lot of things. you need to test the 12v, have the codes read, make sure there is at least 3 gallons of gas, check inverter pump fluid movement, oil level and so on.

    how many miles on her?

After charging the battery, disconnect the negative terminal for few seconds, reconnect then restart.

It should start. Shut down and try to start again. If it starts a second time, then it's not as serious. If it doesn't start a 2nd time, then you have a bigger problem

Also I took the battery back to the Toyota dealer and it tested fine. I'll put the gas in it and see what happens.

when you have trouble getting gas in, try a different pump, or open the cap and let it breathe for a minute. you can also try pumping as slowly as possible, and also holding the handle at 45 and 90 degrees. all the best. (y)

So we added a little over 3 gallons of gas and the car didn't register it or start. Added another 2 gallons and disconnected the neutral terminal and it still didn't start. The car never registered the gas. Light still blinking. Any more suggestions?

Have you messed with the orange plug on the hybrid battery?

Then just let the car stay on for a few minutes until the blinking fuel registers. Your car should start

If it doesn't start tomorrow, you'll need a pro to sort this out. Could be a fuel pump issue

you'll have to go to the dealer and have the trouble codes read, unless you're capable of diy. you can try an auto parts store, but their readers aren't always specific enough.

trying to understand what killed your new 12v battery, that's unusual.
