My wife has an '09 Prius with Feature Package 2, and the MFD went bad. After pricing them from the dealer, I'm now looking on eBay and other retailers. I have a couple questions:

    1) The unit in my wife's car has the rear view monitor. It does NOT have Bluetooth or the nav system. Are these the only features a unit may or may not have when I look for a replacement, or are there other features that may or may not be present?

    2) Can I "trade up" to a higher unit? In other words, if I get one with Bluetooth, will I then have full Bluetooth functionality? Same with nav. Are these features contained entirely in the MFD unit, or is additional equipment required?

    3) Does anyone have part numbers for the units with the various feature sets, so I can shop for exactly what I need? It looks like they're all of the form 86110-47XXX, although a couple end with "-C0." It seems like there are more variations of the part number than there are variations of the features, so I'm guessing the part numbers also vary by model year.

    4) This car also has the aux adapter plug in the center console, if that makes a difference. The car's manual has different sections for with/without the adapter.

    5) Any other advice here, or anything I'm not considering?

    Thanks!

I didn't know there was a warranty on the MFD, other than the standard warranty, which is long since expired. Didn't purchase any kind of additional extended warranty. Should this be covered at 150K miles?

The problem was diagnosed by the local Toyota dealer, and they didn't volunteer that it was covered.

i'm not sure, there are some threads her regarding it. maybe the toyota owners website. there was a 10 year extended warranty on gen II's but i'm not sure of the details. dealers don't always get it right, so it's worth looking into before spending your own money. someone may jump in here and correct me.

UPDATE: I just pulled my dash apart to look behind the unit. My part number is 86110-47230.

Also in doing further research, it looks like Bluetooth & Nav are only compatible with the JBL 9-speaker stereo. I have the standard 6-speaker setup.

So it's looking to me that upgrading to Bluetooth or nav is not an option, and I need to replace with what I had before. Can someone confirm?

    Thanks!

    Larry,

I have a 2009 with a bad MFD and it does not have Bluetooth.
How did you make out with upgrading your MFD?

Erbie -- I ended up getting exactly the same MFD I had before. No upgrade.
