Alright so I have been looking through some of the threads on here, and I figure it is because of my coolant pump; however, I hit a huge pothole about a month ago during the morning time, and the entire car lost power. I was assuming it just rattled something, but then the other day after I was driving for about 2 hours, I hit a tiny hole and the car lost power.

However, when the car lost power, it started making this weird rubbing noise as if the timing belt had went off track or something. I'm not sure if that's even possible, but I pulled over, turned the car off, and turned the car back on. Everything was fine after that and I continued to drive for a few more hours.

I drive Uber in LA, and have recently changed to driving during the day. It's been heating up a lot here, and supposedly the pumps start to go out during the heat, and mine has 100k on it so it only makes sense that it is that.

I do not think the transaxle fluid was ever changed at the 60k interval and I just hit 100k two nights ago. I decided I'm not going to Uber anymore until I get this all taken care of. I need this car to last as long as possible, and I am definitely worried about the ATF or whatever because it's 40k past when it's supposed to be changed.

Anyways, if anyone has any suggestions as to what else it could be rather than just the coolant pump, please let me know. I do not want to go to the dealership and tell them "I know there is something wrong, I just do not know what." I'll end up walking out of there with a bunch of shit I do not need fixed lol.

Also, I was going to take my car to the Lexology in Redondo Beach because a few people recommened from this forum, but they aren't open again until Tuesday.

Anyone have a reliable prius mechanic in LA that is open today (Sunday, 6/28/15) or tomorrow (Monday, 6/29/15)? I really need to get back on the road and making monies.

    Thanks everyone.

welcome! actually, toyota doesn't recommend changing the tranny oil. so you're not late, but many here recommend it, so, it's probably a good idea to do it now.

Alright, I took a quick look at this car today and I'm pretty sure I figured it out. Anyone want to take a guess?

And thank you bisco for the referral.

I want to guess but 'loss of power' is too nondescript. Is there a more informative thread ?

OK, it sounds like Avi is saying the car powered down. I'll presume that any malfunction that leads the Prius to decide to completely power the down the car is not going away so easily, so this sounds more like a case of the car thinking it *has* actually been told to power down -- the equivalent of holding down the 'Power' button for ~ 3 seconds.

Aside from the car shutting down on purpose, any other reasons it would go dark?

A mechanic who is a tease. Great.

For now my only thought is the CM but I don't think the car powers down in that situation.
A dark screen could also be an inadvertent illumination change but again, the car would continue to run; and a reboot would not 'fix' the problem.

I guess there's no point in torturing you guys. What about a loss of power on the low voltage power system?
