2010 Engine continuously running.

    2010 Prius. When I start the car cold the cars acts like it should. Fires up until warm and then shuts off. Once it has been driven for a while the engine stays on all the time. If I shut the car off and restart it doesn't do the normal engine fire-up and shutoff. As soon as I hit the accelerator the engine starts and stays on until shut off. At stoplights the engine will be on with no charging being shown on the charging monitor. It also gets herky jerky, doesn't have the same power as before the engine stays on continuously. I have unplugged 12v battery for 1 hour as well. Still same thing happens. As you can imagine, gas mileage is in the crapper.

    Your hybrid battery pack might be the culprit.

    Have you got any Christmas lights on the dash?

    My guess is your HV battery is on its way heading South:D

    Before we jump to too many conclusions, some additional questions;):

    • How many miles on your Prius?
    • What maintenance has been done?
    • Where are you located?
    • Do you leave the climate control in auto?
    • Have you ever cleaned the egr circuit?
    • Does the HSI screen performance of the battery cycle between full and low quickly?
    • What was your mpg before and what is it now?
    • How long and how many miles have you noticed this phenomenon?
