2010 Prius ,Ac blowing warm and engine idles off and on

My AC just started blowing warm. It will occasionally in spurts blow cold for a minute or two then back to warm. This happens even as we're driving but all I can find is info mostly on when it happens only when idling. I did notice that when I'm idling, the engine will kick on for a few seconds then off for a few then back on for a few then off for a few, repeatedly. I also noticed that the light will bounce from circulation to intake on the options. We topped the coolant off just in case it was related but nothing changed ( and it wasn't really low anyway). Also checked to make sure nothing was blocking a fan. Hubby is picking up a relay he saw info on, says if it's bad it won't tell the fan to blow lower just off or on. . Something to that effect. This just happened three days ago, we've driven his vehicle to avoid the heat but today he had to work, I've had to drive the Prius and it's 90+ degrees out. I'm going to die ( I'm being dramatic..I think). Any ideas on what to look into if the relay doesn't work? We're big DIY'ers and not afraid of putting in work but can go to a mechanic if we need to.
