Hey all, tried the search function and seen a few things similar, but not exactly like my issue. Wife's the car past few days had issues turning on once in a while. dash lights would turn on, but would not go in "ready" mode to be able to shift out of park. Today I tried putting my little booster pack to the terminal out front an voila, READY light on, car started and could shift.....but the left side of the display was blank. Speedometer and such was still on, but the rest was completely blank. Drove around for 15-20 minutes in hope to charge the battery. shut it off, was able to strat it, but same result, no left display.

The battery is now out of the car and on a battery tender. She was showing 85%. I'll see if she gets any higher overnight. Could the battery cause the display to do this?

Oh one last thing, I'm under the impression it smelled like rotten eggs when I got home... that usually means catalytic converter or battery sulfur....

    Thoughts ?

The 12V is most likely the culprit for the wonky behavior. It may be on its last legs if it is the original battery, especially with the rotten egg smell (hydrogen sulfide?)
Go for another drive after you take the 12V off of the charger and see if the symptoms reappear...

Last night I checked on the battery and it showed 100%, so I reinstalled it and voilà, the cluster seemed to work as intended. I didn’t go for a drive and didn’t take it today to go to work (had made other travel arrangements) but will see what it does this evening after sitting for 24hrs.

What charger are you using; how many amps rating, and how old is it?

Electronic load testing the battery will clarify where you're at.

A recent smart charger (name?), or a rusty/dusty charger you've had for 20+ years?

So, you are trying to get a "reason" instead of an "excuse" to get a new(er) car. :)

The battery is not going to know the difference. 2amps is 2 amps.
A steady 2 amps won't hurt it, if the battery is healthy.
Better is it lowered the amperage as it charged.

And if it's the only charger you have, that's what you use.
How often do will you be using it? And do you have the $40 for a decent charger?

I have a larger smart charger and also a smaller trickle charger/tender that I have for the atvs, lawn tractor, travel trailer. No more than 10yrs old probably
