I’ve been look at Priuses for a while. I want it to be my first car. I work two jobs and I’m a college student, so I’m looking for an affordable one for myself.

I found one on Facebook Marketplace, but there are several things wrong with the car. The car won’t start or even turn on. According to the current owner of the vehicle, the red triangle of death, check engine light, ABS, BRAKE, and other warning lights came on before it conked out. He got it checked out at Auto Zone they assessed that the Spark plug needs to be replaced or that it’s a blown head gasket. It died last week but officially had problems since Feb 25.

The car has a little over 190k miles. I personally think it’s the hybrid battery. Should I still purchase the vehicle? What should I do to fix it and get it to start up when I visit the guy?

Unless you have stable income to hire out for repairs, have time to sit in waiting rooms and be on the phone w/mechanics for many hours a week, or studying to become a car mechanic, I’d stay far away. There’s many red flags, also Don’t let the Prius bug bite you. if youre still in college and don’t plan to drive far to and back from school, look into corolla, Camry and civics. Even if battery is replaced, you got other things coming.

This is not the right car for your situation and your budget. Find something less expensive and with fewer known issues.
