2010 Prius vs Plug In

    So with our 2010 Prius in comparison to a plug in Prius
    will the plug in getter mpg's just because of the Lithium
    battery as opposed to the nickle battery in the 2010 Prius.

    In looking at some of the posts even on highway the mpg's seem to
    be a little better than what we get. Highway ours about 52-55 mpg's.

    Is it because all the energy used for braking or downhill is all
    stored in the Lithium battery and when the nickle battery
    is full sometimes only halfway down a large slope that energy
    that could fill up the lithium battery is now being wasted?

    The extra MPGs can probably be credited to the larger storage capacity of the lithium battery in the PIP - more capacity for the electric motor to assist the ICE and/or have the electric motor independently propel the car. If the nickel battery had the same storage capacity of the lithium battery, I'm sure that the MPGs would be similar. Happy Priusing!
