Bought a 2011 Prius with JBL Nav. The display backlight and digitizer is shot. I took the whole unit apart yesterday and I think it's not an issue with the screen itself but with the circuit board driving it.

So my question is what are my options? I could do an aftermarket unit but I would rather stick to stock if possible.

I could buy a replacement E7022 for ~$500 I can pretty much guarantee this will work.

I have done some searching and found no definitive answer on to whether or not the 2012 JBL Unit will work in my 2011. I know at the very least I will need an antenna adapter. No big deal.

The 2012 JBL unit labeled 57034 is available for under $250 and has more features. It'd be great to know if I can direct swap this in with an antenna adapter. Some of the plugs look like they match up while for some I can't be sure from pictures.

Anyone here with actual experience in this retrofit?

I just posted my repair experience of the touchscreen on my unit which appears to be the same as yours. My LCD display and backlight work fine - I only needed the front glass. See Replaced 2011 JBL Nav Touchscreen ... Success !! | PriusChat

Depending on how much of a gambler you are, the touchscreen, LCD display and the logic boards are all available from Chinese vendors ... if you go to aliexpress.com and search for LQ070T5GA01, you'll see the parts. I have a 2011 Prius with JBL Nav (DENSO radio with E7022 printed on the lower front of the pivoting screen assembly). I certainly can't guarantee any of those parts are 100% compatible, but it sounds like you are pretty handy with repairs and *might* want to take a stab at it. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I've already disassembled and reassembled the unit and found that the problem is likely with the circuit board the digitizer and screen both plug into since it's 3 separate connections, digitizer, backlight, screen display. The only one that functions is the screen display. It would surprise me if both the backlight and digitizer had failed. What are your thoughts?

I would conclude the same thing, but there is a smaller chance the ribbon cable or its connector could be damaged or there is a power/signal problem in the radio that feeds the display, or something else.

I did take a pic of the back of the display assembly when I had mine disassembled (below). The boards on aliexpress seem to have the exact same connector configuration (ribbon cable to the radio, LCD drive, touchscreen and LCD power), but some of the chips are slightly different. The board is *probably* compatible with your unit.

I'm guessing the gray chip in the upper right generates the high voltage for the LCD backlight particularly since there are air gap slots cut in the PCB for arc prevention. If that chip failed, that would explain the backlight issue, but it wouldn't explain the touchscreen not working, so it is a bit of a mystery. Good luck!

Yup looks like the same board in mine as well.

Didn't realize that top connector covered a model/serial # -- Thanks for that info. I had some trouble with that connector and ended up just leaving it in. What was the secret to getting it out?

The shiny metal 'latch' is hinged and rotates UP to release the pressure on the flex cable. You can see it in the UP position in my pic and the DOWN position in your pic. The touchscreen connector releases by moving the white plastic 'wedge' toward the flex cable and the LCD connector is released by moving the black plastic 'wedge' in the same manner. Be careful as they are somewhat fragile; when properly released the flex cable can be removed with little to no force.

Thanks for that info. I was able to remove all cables except the one with the metal latch. Didn't see the latch.

    Hello,

Not sure if anyone is following this thread but just wondering if someone had more information about my situation. My JBL E7022 suddenly went dark. I’ve checked the basics including the various dimming options and none effect the screen. I can barely see what the screen should show, that is the map or radio stations. I can also navigate as the touch screen works. It seems as if the backlight is out. Which part would I have to purchase to fix the backlight issue? I wasn’t sure from the conversation above.

I would think a replacement board would likely fix your issue and you would could reuse the digitizer (aka touchscreen). The model number is under the ribbon cable (see my post #4 - I have a 135942-22200910 which is available at Brand new Logic PC Board Display pcb 135942 22200910 for Toyota Car DVD display -in Car Monitors from Automobiles & Motorcycles on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group

To be safe, you would need to know your exact model number and order whatever matches it.

How do you know the exact touch screen-digitizer to order? I am replacing the touch screen only on a JBL 57034. I see all the great info on model numbers for other parts but how do you get the correct touch screen?
