I was told that I was pushing to hard on the break peddle and that is why it went to the floor, the caution light went on as well. I was told to just hit the break lightly and it should be ok. That is was normal to go to the floor if I push to hard on the break peddle. Is this true or is there something wrong with my breaking system? I have a 2011 that I just bought and have never owned a Prius before.

I'm guessing that something did break in your brake system. If that happened to my brake pedal, I would take a break from what I'm doing to contact my dealer for them to look at it. Since brakes are very important in stopping the car, they should be looked at immediately after they break, and are no longer functioning properly.

By the way, the dealer might try to peddle other useless items to you that you don't need, so be careful not to buy anything you don't need. For instance, they may try to convince you that a new brake pedal is needed, but it sounds like your pedal is working already. You just need someone to tell you what's wrong with your brakes.

If you were at a stop when you 'pressed too hard" on your brake pedal, you probably activated the hill assist feature. The system beeps and a yellow light illuminates on the dashboard. The pedal may sink a bit towards the floor as well.

This is all normal for the feature. Consult your owner's manual.

it's not true, there is something wrong if it goes all the way to the floor. have the dealer show you on a new model how he can push it all the way to the floor. not.

Where did you buy the car? Hit the brakes lightly and it should be OK? No, it's not OK! You should be able to stomp on the brakes and not have them go to the floor. Have the car towed to the dealer.

Stop driving your car and have it towed to the dealer. That is just common sense.

Guys, the OP says this is a new to them Prius that they just got days ago. The Prius must have been checked out and inspected/driven prior to being offered for sale.

The OP is most likely exaggerating the whole brake pedal went to the floor thing. Maybe the brake pedal went toward the floor, but not to the floor. Big difference.

As mentioned previously, when the hill assist is activated, by pressing down "hard" on the brake pedal, the pedal sinks a little and the car beeps and a dashboard indicator lights. Sure, it could be disconcerting or alarming to someone who is not familiar with the feature.

But telling the OP to have it towed to the dealer is a bit much at this point.

Where is the OP by the way?

    One hit wonder?

See this all before. Should we bother with further posts if we don't hear back from the op?
