OK, I pretty quickly warmed to the Flying Buttress console. Came to grips with the "Noisemaker" (although now that it's in the 60's in Ohio and I'm driving with the windows down I *do* notice it more).
But today was the first I tried to use the USB port in the front of the bottom of the center console. Sheeeeesh, what a bone-head idea. You have to take everything out of the console, you can't actually see the ports without a double-jointed dental exam mirror, and getting your hand/arm in and inserting the jack is a pain in the butt!
On the other hand 50-60 (and up) mpg from the display (be interesting to see how it calculates out by hand when I actually start pouring gas into the thing) makes up for a lot of grumpage. I do love this car!

I just plug either a USB extension cable or a Apple dock connector in and leave it. I keep the loose end in the small storage tray when not in use. By leaving the cable installed I don't have to hunt for the receptacle at the bottom of the console.

Indeed. In our Prius and Civic we have Aux cables permanently plugged in. Players come with one and I buy extra ones as needed.

I wonder why they opted not to include the console tray that apparently comes with 2010/11s. I suppose because the center console changed but I read that some people say the tray still fits so that can probably be purchased from the dealer.

I like having the plug hidden so I can hide all the things attached to it. Having it on the dash would either have it catching dust or require a cap that wouldn't look very good. One by the lower 12v plug would have been nice though.

Here is the P/N that I got off of my tray P/N: 58825-47020, don't think it could be that expensive.

Afterthought...Do you have the holes for the tray?

When I first got my Prius about 5 weeks ago, I was having some problems with the entune system with my iPhone. So I went back to the dealership and they were able to fix the issue. For some reason it was not recognizing my iPhone all of the time. To make a long story short the techy guy at the dealership said that they had gotten a tech bulletin stating that you needed to use an Apple usb cord to connect. According to the tech, it had something to do with data transmission speeds.

The other thing he did was reboot (Hard Reset) my iPhone:

    wikihow.com/Hard-Reset-an-iPhone

So whenever the iPhone seems a little flukey try to reboot it.

I had originally gotten the cable from monoprice like ny_Rob suggested but in this case it was not good enough for whatever reason. Went out and bought an official one and haven't had a problem since although I have rebooted a couple of times.

Not to switch the subject, but I am a monoprice advocate, especially when it comes to hdmi cables, TV mounts, screen protectors etc. They have quality merchandise at rock bottom prices. I am in no way affiliated with them except with being a long time customer.

Now ashamed to say that I looked after reading this thread and still couldn't find it. I have to go back out there with a flashlight and magnifying glass.

If your car was manufactured early in the 2010 model year you might not have a USB connection. They added it towards the end of the 2010 model year.

According to my "Display Audio System Owners Manual", "The USB/AUX port is located on the instrument panel, or in the console box or glove box etc."

Looking at the pic it could be on the top left corner inside the top glove box.

Don't know what they mean by "etc".

Anyone know if the Prius One has the connection docks? I was expecting it to be by the low 12 volt plug, but didn't look in the center console compartment. I sure hope it has it or I will be dissapointed.

Checked after work, it was there, kind of a pain to get to and I definitely agree, the one below the dash is a better location. In terms of hiding your stuff, you can always drape something to keep prying eyes away from seeing below the dash center.
