I need to replace my battery in my 2012 Prius. Got a quote from a Toyota dealer for an OEM battery for CAD$430 (plus $60 install plus tax - if diy warranty drops to 1 yr)!! Costco & AAA/CAA doesn't stock them. I am considering these:

    [MTX-S46B24R battery | Interstate Batteries] CAD$330

[Magnacharge PRIUS 12V AGM Car Battery | 400 CCA – Voltloop Canada] CAD$297

    [MPA-S46B24R Pro-Series XD Battery — Partsource] CAD$324

The dimensions are slightly off from the Toyota Part #28800-21171, would they fit?

I am thinking the Interstate one because of its 3 years warranty. I'd appreciate any recommendations.

    Have you tried Canadian Tire?

^ Hmm, right now not seeing anything, on west coast.

SaskBattery is another option. Their website has been clunky; email enquiry may be best.

Even though Canadian Tire is currently saying they have nothing, if I search for " S46B24R", it says 3 available at their store local to me. Current price (West Coast Canadian Tire) is $300.99 CDN. Wasn't that long ago it was around $200...

BTW, I emailed SaskBattery, asked "What batteries do you have for 2010 Prius?"

So far, they got back to me saying "We stock the clairos (sic) agm battery (they are the largest battery maker in the world)"

I responded asking them to confirm they have a 3rd gen Prius compatible one, and how much do they want for it.

Also, think the spelling should be "clarios".

Hi @Mendel Leisk! Thank you very much for the info. My search on Canadian tire website didn’t come up anything for the Prius V but you’re right that it came up in stock for the product number. The battery doesn’t look like it has a vent tube, is that necessary to have since the battery is inside the cabin?

    SaskBattery responded:

“Good morning yes is it (sic) price is $209.50 plus tax delivered”.

I’ve asked if they’ve got a link, showing specs and dims.

Battery for a 2010 Prius cost me around $200 a couple years ago, cant imagine prices went up $100 in that time.

You’re in the States; we’re talking CDN $’s, and things just tend to be pricier up here.

Got response from SaskBattery: they’ve posted the battery on their website. Price jumped slightly, to $230~. Since they quoted me $210 they will honour, but $230 is their asking price. Free shipping within Canada, and AFAIK they only charge GST, no PST (anywhere but Saskatchewan I think).

I asked one final question: verify posts are skinny Japanese style and it’s 100% 3rd gen Prius compatible. Think it is.

A few more questions answered by email (website lacked the info), and I think I'm done:

It’s got the smaller, Japanese style posts?
Yes it is the mini (JIS ) posts.

it has the vent port, on left (positive) end?
The battery has vents on both sides, with a plug that can be used on whichever end you are not using the vent tube in.

    What is the case height?
The case height is 7 7/8" < this is a close match to the stock Yuasa; my notes say 8" for that. Toyota's proprietary battery hold-down bracket is hopelessly intolerant of height variance, but this should be very doable: if slightly shorter, a thin shim layer under the battery case, or a washer or two under the hold-down brack, and you'd be set.

Now if only I needed one... :(
