    Hello,
I recently had a 2010 Prius III that got the good old coolant leak into the engine issue that resulted in a complete loss.

I'm looking more at a 2013 Prius II with 70k. Are there any issues with this model I should be aware of?

    Thank you!

not that i recall. i think the egr circuit has been updated, but it will probably be worth taking a look around 100k.

Egr is still in the same position ;).

If buying another Gen3, I’d look to do the following early in your ownership:

    • Transaxle fluid drain and fill
    • Keep an eye on the oil dipstick and top up as needed
    • Drive and enjoy the newer Prius
Good luck with your purchase decision (y).

do you think the 2012-15 will suffer the same egr fate as 2010 and 11?

Yeah. I think there was one or more updates to the intake manifold, maybe opening the EGR passageways a bit?? But I'd suspect it does squat. @NutzAboutBolts did the intake manifold cleaning, and the EGR circuit cleaning, on his 2012, and found about the usual, around 120K miles IIRC.

"Fate" is maybe strong, I cleaned all of the above, somewhat prophylactically around 70K kms, AND installed an Oil Catch Can. I'm hoping the later will improve things. At any rate, doing the above cleaning chores, say every 100K miles at the most, you'll be ok. Trouble is, in particular with the EGR, it's a royal pain to get to, and so far Toyota doesn't much want to hear about it.

and not everyone is willing or capable, and will just drive it until the head gasket blows.

While the design was changed on the intake manifold, the design and inlet into the cooler had not until the gen4:(.

I was trying to convince @soldierguy to lend a hand with data, but they sold off their gen4 some time ago at around 90 k miles. I’m curious myself on that design change;).

All Gen3 Prii should see the same buildup and will need to clean the circuit.

    My take anyway (y).

Did EGR pipe inspection weeks ago at @Raytheeagle's garage with my mid refresh cycle 2012, shares the same fate. Not missing out either.
