We need to replace our windshield. A rock hit it and ultimately the crack is too big to repair. We are currently contemplating Safelite vs a local company who can use either Vitro or Pilkington. The Pilkington is slightly more expensive, by about $55. There seems to be more information on Pilkington and a bigger consensus that it's a high-quality OEM manufacturer. We realize that doesn't mean a ton given that aftermarket parts are likely not to OEM specifications, no matter what the brand.

Any thoughts on this subject? Our car gets a lot of miles currently, and this is the first time the glass has broken. We are looking for longevity on the new glass as well high thermal UV, sound, and visual performance, but don't want to spend over $1000 on the OEM part.

Just go with the lowest price... There's almost no difference between brands other than price. If you notice any imperfections in the glass after install require that they put in a different one.
