    Hello Prius community,

We recently purchased a 2013 Prius v Three (Certified Pre-Owned) from a local dealership. It has about 71k miles on it, and is in relatively good condition.

We notice in the mornings (after the Prius V sits overnight - about 10-12 hours) that charge indicator icon (next to the fuel indicator) is consistently at 2 bars, when we start the car in the morning. Sort of like this image: [IMG]

The Prius v starts up fine, and the charge indicator icon increases to 3/4-7/8 full throughout the day. When we start it up every morning, the charge indicator icon is again at 2 bars.

Is this a problem? Should we bring it into the Dealership and see if there is a problem with it holding a charge? We're new to this Prius and we're just wanting to be proactive and do any preventative maintenance before getting stranded.

    Thanks in advance!

What does the hv battery indicator show when its shutdown at night? Its normal for the charge to go up and down as you drive, especially if you drive it slow enough to be in ev mode much or even if you just sit there idling for lengths of time.

Thanks for the quick reply rjparker. The hv battery indicator shows that it is about 3/4-7/8 full before we shut it off and park for the night. In the mornings (after the Prius V sits overnight) that hv battery indicator icon (next to the fuel indicator) is consistently at 2 bars (very low), as we start the car in the morning.

Appears to be an ignition-off current draw on the HV battery.

For reference, our 2012 v Five can sit for a month and not lose more than 2 bars from 'full'.

Doesn't sound right at all. That is the HV battery indicator, not the 12v. But the HV does charge the 12v. So an easy thing to check is the condition of the 12v. After that you are into specialist tools.

Any non original-equipment on the car that could be a "key off" current draw?

    congrats and welcome! (y)
could be that your commute home runs it down, then losing a bar or two overnight isn't abnormal. it is not designed to stay close to fully charged all the time.

If it's the same as the Gen III, the bars only display the HV battery charge from ~40% (1 bar) to ~80% (all bars). The HV battery is never "fully" charged.

The 12v battery will not discharge the hv battery with the system off. So a constant drain like the hatch light - a common culprit - will simply discharge the 12v battery.

Are you turning the Prius completely off when you get home by pushing the on/off button? It's a stretch, but it is possible you are leaving the car on overnight, which would cause your battery to have two bars in the morning.

(see the end of Toyota's youtube)

I personally have very, very occasionally seen above 80 and below 40 under my specific driving conditions, but my battery is generally the same when I leave in the morning as it was when I turn the car off in the previous evening.

Remember that you have to put the car in park by pressing the P button, and then turn the car off by pressing the blue power button. When the car is fully turned off, you should only see the odometer readout, door ajar light, and security light in the gauge cluster. The audio, display screen, and A/C should all turn off and stay off.

Our 2012 v Five's HV indicates down one bar when 'full', and is almost always parked and restarted that way, as much as days later, rarely down by more than 2 bars after a week. The OP must have an IOD on the HV.

My 2014 is usually almost full bars when gt home from traveling arouund. And after parking it overnight, always shows almost full bars in the am. Never goes down to 2. If it's showing full or close when you park it, and only 2 in the am., then something is wrong.
