2015 three (91k mi) vs 2017 one (113k mi) Help!

    I’m trying to choose between:

    2015 Prius 3 w/ 91k miles
    And
    2017 Prius 1 w/ 113k miles

    They are the same price.

    I like the interior and the look of the 2017 a LOT but is it, the younger battery, and 2 extra mpg worth it?

    (The 2017 seems to have the same features as the 2015 Three, plus the 2017 has automatic cruise control and lane departure warning. Plus 2 tone interior)

    Advice please!!

    I would go for the 2017. HV warranty stays in force for new owners if I remember correctly. That gives you an extra 2 years and is California still 150k miles?

    I would also go with the 2017. You should have a lot less problems. Also Adaptive cruise control makes a huge difference on stress levels when driving. For me anyway.

    As far an I know, yeah, it's up to 150k miles.
    Unfortunately I am at a loss as to how many miles we drive in a year, so I'm not sure when we would hit that 150k mark.

    That's awesome!! I would LOVE that!!!

    Also: does anyone know if the lane departure warning helps with parking?
    Like, will it tell me when I'm too close to a vehicle?
    I know it has a backup camera, but my issue is that I always think my frontend is closer than it is when I park, so I freak out parallel parking because I think I'm going to hit someone as I'm cranking the wheel! haha

    I'm gonna be straight with ya'll... When I posted the question, I secretly hoped I'd get people saying to get the 2017. It's so much sleeker looking, has larger cargo space, and IDK if this is aftermarket upholstery, but the inside is all black and grey and I just LOVE IT!

    The lane departure will not help with parking. On a sidenote I find Lane departure pretty useless on my 2019 Highlander. I think it’s the same system on the 2017 Prius. (I think they call it Toyota sense 2)
    With that said you should be pretty happy with the 2017. Beware of the heat exchanger problems that seam to happening on the 2017-2019. Lots of threads about it on Priuschat. I believe it’s a 1500 part and Toyota has a revised part number for the part.

    113K on a Gen 4 is high, but that usually means more highway miles than city miles, Usually...
    Highway miles can be a lot less demanding on the batteries, if the other conditions are also right.

    I'm with everyone else offering advise here. Gen 4 is an upgrade from Gen 3.
    The interior does look pretty and it also looks like a fairly expensive custom rework. Makes me wonder what else the previous owner might have added to the car?
    What is the exterior color? And do you like that too?

    That's easy! 2017 by a mile. Better economy, better handling, more comfortable, newer battery, no head gasket/EGR issues so far. (The shop where I work part time replaces 3rd gen head gaskets every day. Last week, they had three in at the same time for that. So far, not a single gen 4 head gasket.) And 91k vs. 113k isn't much difference at all.

    We will be test driving the 2017 tomorrow!!! I'm so excited!! I love the look of her!!
    I watched a video about the different generations of Prius, and in THIS video (at 11:40), he talks about how "hideous" the interior is. haha! And even though we are getting the Prius One, the inside has been decked out to almost look like, as he says "A mix between an orca whale and a Micheal Jackson wardrobe". haha! And I, honestly, love it.
    In honor of this, I've already named the car "EO". As in "Captain EO". haha!
    I'm going to be so sad if we don't end up liking her tomorrow... or if they turn us down for financing or something else unforeseeable. But it's CarMax, so I doubt they'll turn us down haha

    I've owned both generations. Unless there's some significant differences between these two particular vehicles, go with the Gen 4.

    The 2015 has a spare as far as I know (or at least a place for one). The 2017, however, is the Prius One, so no spare. From what I've read, the 2017 Prius Ones omitted three things that the higher-up models have: a spare tire, a rear-window washer-wiper, and the pockets on the backs of the front seats.

    There was no Prius Trim one. Sounds like the 2017 is a Prius Two Eco if it has no spare. It is a good choice since it has the best mpg of all the trims and a lithium battery. Still has advanced safety features.

    All the 2017s have space for the spare. You just have to buy the parts you need (New foam and the donut). You may have to do a bit of welding to add the socket for the screw-in spare hold down. My 2016 Prius 3 came with these parts.

    Honestly? (for better or worse) I think I'd rather have extra room than a spare. We're musicians, so the space for equipment helps. We don't currently plan on taking her anywhere where roadside assistance couldn't get to easily and quickly. :) ...But who knows if I'll end up eating those words haha! :p

    I see the 2018s had a Prius One. Either it came out sometime in 2017 (common for the next year) or Toyota did a production change on the 2017s.
