2016 Prius c, Just drained both engine and inverter coolant. Only four quarts came out.

    Both reservoirs were full before draining, I also drained the engine reservoir. How to drain the other 3.3 quarts that are in there? Book says 5.6 engine capacity and 1.7 inverter , so 7.3 total. Thanks for any help.

    Disconnect the lowest hose on the exhaust heat recovery unit?

    Repair Manual always says to remove the block drain bolt: at least on our 2010 that got me less than a 1/4 cup. And it was a production to get to.

    Hi Mendel, Thanks for the reply. Where is the heat recovery unit. I will be ordering a repair manual, what are people using, Climer, Haynes, or is the factory manual a must? Thanks

    That's the amount of coolant I replaced when I did it: about a gallon.

    Just noticed you have a c. Assuming it also has this, I'd look just aft of the catalytic converter(s); it's part of the exhaust system, and you'll be seeing (coolant) hoses attached to it.

    The book states the total system capacity, but there will always be a small amount of coolant left in the system. Heater core, etc. Toyota knows this, and it's the reason the second change interval is at about half of the original; 160,000km/7 years for the first and 80,000km/4 years for subsequent.

    However, if you changed the coolant IAW the video above, the reason you got so little is because you left some coolant in the radiator. There are two places it needs to be drained for the engine, and he only does the drain cock on the engine. There's also a drain cock on the left hand bottom of the radiator (transmission side). It's literally "Step A" in the service procedure.

    same here, one gallon originally, then topped off about half a quart after driving around for a day
