2022 Prius has 91S oem tires. Is it okay to replace with 89S?

    I purchased my Prius from Hertz, and while the mileage is reasonable, the tires are going to need replacing soon. Prius L. I think the original Dunlop Enasave 01 A/S are rated 91S. Is it okay to replace with 89S? Walmart has a good deal on some Yokohama Avid S tires, but they are rated 89S. Wondering if that's okay?

    Yes. A 2022 has a GVWR of approximately 4000 lbs, and the 89 tire rated at 1279 lbs per tire so it would be rated for just over 5000 lbs GVWR. My 17” tires on my 2022 are only rated at 87V. The S is the speed rating (112 mph).

    I would personally stick with a 91 or better load rated tire. I would also check the car door jam for the minimum tire specifications of the car. I'm pretty sure your not carrying a spare, just that slime kit. The side walls and threads a slightly thinner and structurally weaker than a higher load caring tire. The tire will also wear slower when a higher than specified load rated tire is placed on a lighter car.

    It's your choice....
