Please see below...post #12&13. 45.9 MPG in one direction and 49 MPG in the other. I wish I could edit that post as the passenger wheel liner is missing and part of the belly pan appears to be missing as well. Drive was about 1hr 20 min. I cannot get the A/C off of max for about 40 minutes into the trip as I am in heavy uniform.

It seems like we are identical considering the variables you mentioned.

    Thanks.

I hadn't checked the other thread, and those numbers look very good. But it seems like something has changed since then. While shorter drives do have an effect on mpg, it shouldn't be that great a difference unless there is a problem. At least I haven't noticed that to be the case for me. It would still be worth another long test I think just to verify that nothing has really changed in long drive economy.

I did a lot of this type of testing before I decided to pull the trigger on a new HV pack, long and short mpg monitoring, and the difference was no where near as great as you are seeing. Less than 5mpg between the 2 tests. But that is just anecdotal evidence based my one Prius experience. I finally just gave in and got a new battery. The performance is great now. I wouldn't have imagined the battery without any codes or warnings would make that big a difference in performance and yet the mileage remain the same, but it did.

On the advice from others on PC I did a lot of monitoring with Hybrid Assistant and Torque and paid close attention to the A/F ratio sensor and long term/short term fuel trims to see if the engine was able to stay in stoichiometry. It did except for warmup and wide open throttle accels where you could see short term working hard to adjust. Those 2 things give a pretty good overview of how the engine was running. I found Hybrid Assistant better for capturing fast data like O2 sensors without aliasing, which pretty much makes things like 02 sensor data worthless for analysis.

Whatever you decide to do I think if you have an OBDII adapter you can do a lot of sleuthing without having a shop or dealer charge high prices for diagnosis. Generally if going to a dealer to diagnose when you get the invoice the only thing it shows for the total is a picture of an arm and a leg ); One thing I've found about this car is it's pretty useless to diagnose issues without data mining the vehicle computers. At the very least you will see how your engine is running a decide if the problem lies there or you need to look at other things as your issue.

Thanks for all of this. I am going to follow your path on monitoring. The trip was only 8 days ago actually. It delivered 35mpg before the trip and 35 mpg after the trips on short trips when cold started. Nothing has changed on the short trips...pretty much about 35 mpg on these short trips.

Sell it and buy a prius C.

I have both.. but i get peace of mind and less fussing... when she's not having a problem with the C.

Maybe I will when the used car market comes out of the clouds. In the meantime, I have 2 alh Jetta TDIs and 3 other cars which take up my time.
