First I would like to say that my current insurance company is 21st Century Insurance. It was a great deal for me because it was much cheaper than any other place and offered a lot of options. I have had them for over a year now and thankfully havnt had to use them for anything.

Anyway I have unlimited email aliases for my domain. This means I can setup "whateverwebsite ( a t ) jaygroh.com". This allows me to set up an email for every website I visit. This really helps tracking where the spam comes from. I used one for for the 21st insurance company and I started to receive spam from that address a few months ago. I just received another today. This is not any ordinary company spam this spam was for viagra. It even had all the misspellings like a spam email would have. I forwarded the email to the insurance company so they could have a look. They are the only ones that have that email address. The only way for a spammer to get it would be to buy it from them which would be against their TOS. Spammers could also hack their server and get it that way. Either way it pisses me off.

I told them in the email they better look into this and I will be changing my email to another address. If I start to receive spam from that address I would be canceling my policy.

Does anyone else that has 21st monitor their email like I do for spam? Just wondering if anyone else is getting spam from them.

I've got 21st century and haven't noticed any extra spam.

They only notify me when a payment is due.

Have had only good experience with them and would recommend them to anyone looking at insurance.

Your email traffic to that address could have also passed through a hijacked SMTP server, been packet sniffed, or god knows what else. It may not be their fault at all. Due to the nature of the web your address could have been picked up in a variety of ways and places.

Thats true. I forgot about harvesting email that way. Damn spammers.

I still would recommend 21st as they are cheap and have all the options.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: Price is only half the story, and often the least-important half. I do not know this company so I am not specifically addressing them. But there are companies that charge lower rates and then do everything they can to avoid paying off. Insurance that won't pay off when you have a claim is worthless.

It's like the difference between a Ford and a Toyota. The Ford is cheaper, but it's not reliable. I'll bet one of the reasons you bought a Prius was that you knew you could rely on it. Why buy the cheapest insurance, when you would not buy the cheapest car?

Because my other insurance company Grange thought it was a holiday Monday Jan 2nd 2006 and I was about to go home without a car. <--This angry face is not angry enough. Luckily I was able to use the computer at the dealership to find a good company that let me register online. 21st was the only one I found that was at a resonable price. After looking around some more the next day I found out that they were pretty good. I'm going to stick with them until I get my car paid for then I'm going to get a lower rate plan. Maybe from them maybe from someone else. I plan to have this car paid for by the end of 2007.

I haven't had any trouble with 21st century.

Last year I had an accident in which I was at fault. They were excellent with the other guy, I called him to make sure they were treating him right because I had never had experience with the service of 21st century. They arranged a rental car for him even though he told them he wouldn't need it. No bawking or trying to get out of anything.

Recently I was "front ended" and again, no problems. The other guy admitted fault and his insurance is paying. But my experience with talking to the 21st century adjuster and getting my questions answered as so far been excellent. I won't get my car back for another two weeks, so it's not over yet. But as far as I can tell, 21st century service is excellent.

One of the reasons they may be "cheaper" is that you don't have your own personal insurance 'guy' that you call. You call them direct. I'm not a big fan of middle men if they cost more and just add a layer of bureacracy.

Well, I do and I will specifically address this company. They charge lower premiums because they do not use agents and deal directly with the insured. I have been with 21st for 27 years (actually, it was 20th Century Insurance Company when I first went with them).

Their customer and claims service is second to none. When I was rear ended by a hit and run driver, they waived my deductible even before the other party was identified. Oh, yes, he was subsequently charged with leaving the scene of an accident without exchanging the requisite information and ended up on three years probation with a condition that he perform 45 days of work for CalTrans (the guys in the orange outfits working on the sides of the freeways on weekends).

Now, if one were to discuss Mercury Insurance Company, that's a whole 'nother story.

theforce - I've had 21st Century for over 20 years (they were 20th Century when I started) and have always had good service. I've been with them through two kids (and accidents), a stolen vehicle and even had their homeowners insurance before the Big One. You might be able to get a little better price with Mercury, but the customer service for a primarily online/mail insurance company beats anything else that I've ever had. They are very fair. When our vehicle was stolen, we were ready for a fight and we ended up being pleasantly surprised with what they were giving us for a car that was over ten years old. I'll never switch!

I too will now gush about 21st Century Insurance. :D

The wife had a driver make a left turn in front of her. It didn't look the part, but 21st “totaled†the Corolla and paid off MORE than I expected. They were very easy to deal with. This was a “happy†accident, yes, because the wife was OK, but also because the next day I was down at the Toyota dealer getting in line for the Prius. 203 days later - Prius!

    Regarding SPAM:
I too have several mailboxes. One for important stuff and trusted businesses, one for friends and family (yes, important), and one for online shopping and other scary stuff.

So which mail box stays spam free? The shopping and other scary stuff one!
    Why?
Because it has the word “spam†in the address. xxxspam[email protected]
Spammers' clean out the word “spam†or “nospam†from email addresses they collect. Thanks Spammers!!!! Screw-up the address . . . see if I care. :p

The other two mail boxes give Thunderbird's spam filter a workout, but there too, I rarely get a spam in my in-box – they pile up in a junk folder.

Thanks for all the info. I'm finding that 21st is a pretty good company.

I'll have to do some tests with adding spam to my addresses to see what that does. Thanks for the idea. On average I get about 10 spams a day now since closing my 'catch all" address and spamassian catches all of them so far.

I completely agree with IsrAmeriPrius, I've had them for about 15 years and they've always been great. About 12 years ago I was in a hit and run, a car full of little gang bangers hit my 1979 Toyota Corolla station wagon. 21st (then 20th) wanted to total my car because it was so old. I pleaded with them to fix it as at that time I was in no position to buy a new car. They were great and agreed to fix it! I ended up driving it for another 3 years or so. Last November I was hit in the front by another 21st Century person and they took care of it with no hassle. Great quality, low prices.
