I just finished my 4th year MPG calculations (got the car Oct. 21, 2003, but chose to make life a little easier by finishing my Prius fiscal year on Sept. 30th for purposes of mpg calculation).

This was by far my best year since getting my Prius. I have to give a nod to Cleanmpg.com and the hypermilers there for some of the increase as their efforts and details really helped me focus my technique.

    Wow,

I can't wait to get the EBH installed. I just want to maintain 50 as an average. I don't know why, but 50 seems so much better than 48.5.

Congratulations and keep up those numbers.

Did you change the tire in 4 years? If not, the tire bolding could attribute to the improved MPG also.

He ditched the Integrities for Hydroedges (I think) about 2 years ago or there abouts. So he's not on the OEMs and hasn't been for while. Evan, what are the exact details on the tyres?

wow that's pretty darn good! My car's anniversary is coming up in a few weeks so maybe I'll get out the calculator haha.

When's Danny gonna get the next EBH GB? I've already put the foam on the grille.

That's accurate, I changed the tires at about 26k miles, I'm just over 65k now.

    Year 4-15244 miles = 52.4MPG
    EPA rated: 45/52 mpg
NOTE: Others have reported similar mileage in the 2001-03 Prius.

    Techniques used:
    • oil 3/4 full
    • transaxle and engine oil changes
    • tires 50/48 psi (was 42/40 psi old tires)
    • rear wheel alignment shims
    • 0-38 mph - low speed range, cruise control
    • 46-68 mph - highway range, cruise control
    • 1-2 miles, 25 mph warm-up in the morning with "N" until warmed up
    • 1-2 miles, 30 mph EV mode at the end with back-in parking
    • high energy gas (aka., Shell, also Exxon and Chevron tested high)
    • minimize AC and heat, park in shade summer, sun in winter
Forum web sites:Plans for third year:
    • block heater and thermistor hack
    • smart cruise control
    • plug-in lite - topping the existing batteries at night
    • exhaust energy systems
    What a great hobby.

Yea, it makes a big difference, esp. in the winter when the ICE and battery get so cold since I'm parked outside. With the ICE, at least, warm it sure helps that first 5 minute bar improve and allows me to hold mpg near 60 even in winter.

At least the winters tend to not get too cold here. I'm hoping I can continue my 60+mpg tanks even without any EBH help in the afternoons. We'll see soon enough I guess.
