In January 2026, I had the Heat Exchange Value Heat Exchanger 17017P replaced in my 2019 Toyota Prius LE. The car had 111,415 miles at the time so it was not covered under warranty. There was a TSB about this issue but was still out of warranty in my state. After negotiating with the dealership about the known issue, I was able to have the bill reduced from around $2300 to around 1500.

Then on Friday, March 10, 2026, my A/C started blowing only hot air out of the driver side vents and nothing from the passenger side vents. The hot air still blew even with the A/C turned off. The only way to stop it is to activate the recirculate. Since the passenger vents not working properly was a part of the Heat Exchange issue, I did not wait for any service lights but took it in to my local dealer on Monday morning. The local dealer says I need the A/C #2 Damper Servo Motor 870551 replaced. This is a pretty expensive repair as well.

Could this new issue be related to the original heat exchange issue?

    Any insights are appreciated.
