As simple as it seems, there's been a lot of discussion and time
spent on the topic of 12V battery discharge. This may help:
    http://techno-fandom.org/~hobbit/cars/dcty/
a description on the "school for the mechanically declined" level
for a simple hack that can avert a common problem.

It's working for me, both this link and the "techie-rants" home page.

Sometimes the DNS serving "techno-fandom.org" gets kinda iffy. I
don't know why. 155.212.13.217 if you can't get there by name.

Nice post. I am intrigued by the possibility of replacing the door courtesy lights with LEDs. I think I'm going to look for some LED replacements. Any recommended sources?

I'm kinda wondering if darelldd might have something in the pipe...
A little circuit board with contacts in the same place as the wedge-
base lamp wires oughta be a piece o' cake!

I looked at his website - it says that he isn't selling them anymore.

I found something which looks like it might work at this site:

    http://superbrightleds.com/specs/bulb_specs.htm

The very last entry is the one that I'm thinking might work - WLED-WHP $4.95 ea

Its supposed to draw 35 mA @ 12V.

You almost could have swiped the pictures from my page. :)

I never did figure out a "drop-in" solution for mine, but soldering them in was a good way to be sure that door slamming didn't mess them up.

These draw ~1W, and are about 4x as bright as the incandescents. Actually makes them USEFUL, and you can leave the doors open about 3x as long before you kill the battery.

In my EV, I put circuits in that automatically time out, even. NOTHING in the Rav4EV can be left on for more than 15 minutes no matter what you do.

The price is certainly right, so I may go ahead and get a couple of them to try out.
