A new polyurethane pinch weld jacking adapter for inexpensive Torin Walmart HyperTough jack

Our group has developed a special "knife edge" pinch weld adapter that perfectly cradles the chassis securely in three surfaces. The "knife edge" pinch weld is used mainly on Gen 2 and Gen 3 Prius models.

This adapter specifically fits the less than $30 Walmart two ton HyperTough floor jack also sold as the Amazon Basics jack. The jack is often re-branded with other labels.

The problem with this jack is that it's small rotating cup lifting saddle is not compatible with the knife edge pinch weld and will cut int and damage ant point of the pinch weld area that it contacts.

The slot on most commonly sold pinch weld adapters. including ours before modification, is too shallow, and results in the pinch weld's knife edge bottoming on the adapter.

Our adapter is just deep enough so the knife edge contacts the bottom. At the same time, the flat tops on each side of the slot supports the rails inside and outside of the pinch weld.

In the original adapter, the pinch weld's knife edge cuts into about a 5/8 inch thick slab of the polyurethane adapter.

In our design, the jack's steel cup saddle contacts the bottom of the two side "wings" of the adapter while the pinch weld contacts and is supported by the two contact points of the steel swivel saddle.

In effect, this is the strongest design possible for such an adapter. The polyurethane jacking adapter is softer than the expensive painted abs plastic rocker covers and will not damage them when used.
