@citiprius posted a link to some cargo area lights for sale by Toyota in Japan. I was looking through the other items, and saw what I initially thought was a cover for owner's manual (photo below). Instead, when I ran the item's description through Google translate, I found this is the description in English:

    トヨタ プリウスPHV | アクセサリー・カスタマイズカー | 室内・インテリア | トヨタ自動車WEBサイト

    "Mobile toilet (simple set)
It is a simple toilet in an emergency, installed in a car and used.
8,100 yen without consumption tax 7,500 yen [about $85]
※ One touch toilet can be used repeatedly.
    * The number of times of use will vary depending on the usage environment of the customer.
    * The warranty period is one year from the date of purchase."

Of note is that this is the "simple set" and that it carries a one year warranty, which makes one wonder what constitutes a failure and how exchanges are handled.

$170 for a unisex box and 2 bags, no TP in sight, unless you rip the pages out of #6!

Well, let's not be unreasonable. It's just $76.32 (a veritable bargain).

Todays exchange rate for Yen is .0094 US Dollar, so list is 170.14. So is $76.32 sale price??? It's still a cardboard box.......

You need to check your math. Using the figures you quote, the price is $76.14.

.0094 X 8,100yEN = 76.14 USD....... OOPS, my bad, somehow cut and paste put in 18,100, not 8100 into the Google currency calculator!
It's still a cardboard box for 76 bucks....... don't even see a T on it.
Oh look Amazon just delivered a free toilet containing my last order.
I have everything else plus Charmin......

Don't forget the poncho. The poncho is important.

Definitely something you can DIY for less with many dollar store and Amazon items.

For most of my travels, a roll of toilet paper and a cheap garden trowel would suffice. And a free plastic grocery bag to store the trowel.

Not sure how much of Japan has similarly low population densities.
