I have a 3 with Nav, and want to add an amp and a sub - why not, since I'm making the enclosures, I might as well get one in my car when I get a chance.

Has anyone added a sub to their stock Nav unit? Where did you pull your input lines from?

As for powering the amp, is it straight from the battery >fuse > cap > amp > grounded to the body?

This helps. The amp is under the driver's seat, right? Any preference to which speaker outputs from which I should leech?

I have an 2006, and the amp is under the passengers seat. I'm not sure where it is in the 3rd gen cars.
I tapped into my rear speakers, that way if I want no sub, I just put the front speakers on.
    But really, it doesn't matter.

I would think so, but I'm really not sure.

That's what I expected to hear. This is good. I better get some wire!

How do we remotely power the amp?

Well, you could wire a switch in, but I wired mine in off of a accessory wire so it turns on and off with the power to the car.
Another option (that I wouldn't suggest) is to run a thin wire to the REM from the power on the amp. But that keeps it on all the time.

I guess a switch is in order, not like the didn't leave us a few blanks to use. Just not looking forward to running wire forward and back of the car.

If there's a wire in the amp connector that gets triggered from the head unit, I should be able to tap that to a relay to switch the remote power wire. With the remote wire tapped into to an accessory wire (that way there's no direct connect form the factory amp to the sub amp).

There could be a switch on your car for the amp, there isn't on mine.

Question, what's your avatar pic of?

I'll just use the amp power to trigger a relay for the remote line of the sub amp.

    Sounds good!
    Good luck!

When making it bigger, I can now tell what it is by the quarters.
    Is it finished?

Is it finished? Not a chance. My kids keep me busy. But, my son is approaching the age that he wants to start helping. So, I've pushed myself to get the shop organized, get all my fiberglass stuff into one, 12x12 room in the back corner, then pull the car out of it's resting place in the opposite corner to get it in the center bay so we can finish the shell body work, then start prepping for the Ford 5.0 conversion. Not the 'green' route that this forum would appreciate, but I need a little kick in the pants now and then, since I traded my Cadillac in on the Prius.

Actually you'd be surprised at some of the cars people own on here, or have owned.
    I've got a 800hp 1968 Plymouth road runner.

I believe that the ACC input to your head unit should be tapped into for the remote line for your aftermarket amp.

I ran across this piece a while ago searching about ways to upgrade - over my head but sounds like you guys might find it to be of some interest. If I understand it correctly this fellow suggests that adding a sub alone may not be the only, or even the best, way to solve the problems with the system.
